IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 6.0)
In most of the countries, homeownership played a substantial role rather than renting a home. I totally agree with this statement, because owning a property will give you future benefits in the time of retirement, and also help you avoid different expenses that occurs when you have a rental home. Secondly, I beleive that this is a positive trend.
One of the major reasons for owning a home is sense of secrurity and stability. Because, if you have your own house you are not bound to do different tasks according to your landlord. You have free will in your own home. For instance, if a family is living in an apartment for five years and they have created a beautiful environment for their children, Suddenly the landlord might ask them to leave the house, They will face so many difficulties.
I strongly believe that this is positive trend, because when you have your own house you won't have any pressure to live according to your landlord. Secondly, homeownership gives you financial security. For example, after retirement if a person have no pension. They can generate income by renting thier own house, because your house serves as an investment.
In conclusion, homeownership plays a vital role in all socities rather than a renting one. Because, your own house will give you freedom, financial security and stability. I strongly beleive that owning a house is a positive development. Because, it will help you in the time of retirement by generating income for you.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address both parts of the question: you explain why people value owning a home, especially for security, freedom from a landlord, and financial support in retirement, and you clearly judge this as positive. The example of a family being asked to leave helps illustrate the insecurity of renting, while the retirement example supports your view of a home as an investment. However, the reasons overlap across the two body paragraphs, and some claims are asserted rather than fully explained. For instance, the opening mentions avoiding rental expenses, but this point is not developed with an example or explanation. Develop each reason more distinctly and show more clearly how it benefits people over time.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion, and the reader can follow your main position. You use signposting such as “One of the major reasons,” “For instance,” and “In conclusion.” However, the second body paragraph repeats the point about freedom from a landlord before introducing financial security, so progression is not always smooth. Some linking is mechanical, particularly the repeated use of “Secondly” and “Because.” Punctuation also sometimes disrupts the flow, as in “Because, if you have your own house” and the capitalised “Suddenly” within a sentence. Organise each paragraph around a distinct reason and connect examples directly to the point they support.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a relevant range of vocabulary, including “homeownership,” “stability,” “financial security,” “retirement,” and “investment,” which allows you to discuss the topic clearly. There are also attempts at more specific phrasing, such as “generate income” and “bound to do different tasks.” However, spelling errors (“beleive,” “secrurity,” “thier,” “socities”) and awkward or imprecise expressions reduce accuracy. “Homeownership played a substantial role rather than renting a home” does not express the comparison naturally, and “a renting one” is unclear. Aim for accurate collocations and check spelling carefully; more precise wording will make your ideas sound more fluent and controlled.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including conditional structures such as “if you have your own house” and a relative clause in “expenses that occurs when you have a rental home.” Meaning is generally clear, but some grammatical errors remain. Subject–verb agreement is inaccurate in “expenses that occurs” and “a person have no pension”; articles are missing in “is positive trend” and “is sense of security.” Several sentence boundaries are also faulty: “Because, if you have your own house…” is an incomplete sentence, and the retirement example beginning “For example, after retirement…” is separated from the main clause. Review agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries, and combine dependent clauses with complete main clauses. This will improve accuracy while preserving your attempts at complex structures.
