IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 5.5)
In many nations, geeting own home is good than living in a rented apartment. It can be because of the facilities and happiness they feel about owning house. In my point of view, I believe it has higher advantages which is they donot need permission while doing any works and feel satisfaction of having personal house.
To begin with, there are several resons why people need personal homes. Firstly, they do not need permission. To explain, if people have their house and want to do makeover in that house, they do not have to ask and wait until their permission granted. people can have free will. Secondly, different types of satisfaction will be there having house of own. Elaborating further, they do not have stress of paying rent and managing rent every moth or year, they will be free of adjusting rent in time.
Although, sometimes it can be difficult for the people to manage the various things in he home of own and maintaing decorations and polishing the house properly however, having personal homes makes feel people happy where they do not have to share the apartment with others and can enjoy their personal spaces with their loved ones where they do not have any restrictions and do not have to feel worry about the situations of others.
In conclusion, it may have its owm negative and positive sides but, as per my perspective, having owh house is so much better than sharing apartment or renting apartment due to the various facilities we get such as personal spaces with loved ones and having no fear of judgment and impacting other personal life and their situations.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You address both parts of the question: you suggest that people value home ownership because it allows them to make changes without permission and gives them personal space, and you state that you see it as beneficial. These are relevant reasons, but they are not developed in enough detail to make the argument convincing. For example, the point about avoiding rent is mentioned, but the response does not explain how this affects people’s security or finances. The negative side is also brief: managing and maintaining a home is identified as difficult, but its impact is not explored. Your position is present, though it would be clearer if you directly stated why the advantages outweigh this drawback and supported that judgement with a specific example.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, a paragraph explaining reasons, a paragraph acknowledging a drawback, and a conclusion. Sequencing words such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” and “In conclusion” help signal the stages of the discussion. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes unclear, and several ideas are joined together without a clear relationship. The long sentence beginning “Although, sometimes it can be difficult” shifts from a drawback to several advantages, making the contrast hard to follow. Some linking phrases, including “To explain” and “Elaborating further,” feel mechanical, while “they” and “that house” do not always have clear references. Use shorter, focused paragraphs and connect each explanation directly to the point it supports.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use a basic range of topic-related vocabulary, including “permission,” “rent,” “maintaining,” and “personal spaces,” so the main ideas can generally be understood. However, the range is limited and several word choices or combinations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “geeting own home,” “different types of satisfaction,” and “feel worry.” Spelling errors such as “resons,” “moth,” and “owm” also make the writing less clear and polished. Some phrases repeat, particularly “personal homes” and “renting apartment,” rather than expressing the ideas more precisely. Build a bank of natural collocations about housing and financial security, and check spelling and word forms carefully before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, including a conditional structure in “if people have their house and want to do makeover.” However, complex sentences are often faulty, and errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences difficult to follow. Examples include “geeting own home is good than living,” “they donot need permission,” and “having personal homes makes feel people happy,” where sentence structure, agreement, or missing grammatical elements affect clarity. Articles and plurals are also inconsistent, as in “having house of own” and “their house.” Punctuation is sometimes inaccurate, especially around “Although” and “but.” Practise building accurate sentences with articles and subject–verb agreement before adding multiple clauses.
