IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 4.5)
In some countries owinging a house is prefered than renting one. Because it can be benefical to own a house rather than paying rent for living. I believe that having own house is more benefical than renting one.
We all dream to build our own house as it has more benefits. We can feel safe and tend to decorate it according to the will. There will be not stress of monthly rent paying and following the rules already told by to landlords. For example anyone can host parties the way they want and welcome their guests for stay in thei

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You give a clear opinion that owning a home is more beneficial, and you begin to explain why: it can provide security, allow personal decoration, and remove the pressure of monthly rent and landlord rules. The example about hosting parties also supports the idea of greater freedom. However, the response addresses the task only partially: it does not fully explain why home ownership is especially important in some countries, and the positive-versus-negative judgement is asserted rather than developed. The response also falls substantially short of the required 250 words, so there is not enough explanation or support for the main points. Develop both parts of the question with specific reasons and examples before concluding.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response has a basic progression from an opening opinion to reasons and an example, so the reader can identify the main line of thought. However, the development is very brief and does not form a complete essay with clearly separated, purposeful paragraphs. The opening sentence beginning “Because it can be beneficial” is a fragment, and the connection between the general claim about benefits and the later examples is not fully developed. The unfinished final phrase, “for stay in thei,” also interrupts the flow. To improve, organise the response into an introduction, developed body paragraphs and a conclusion, and use clear links to show how each example supports your position.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use a small set of relevant words and phrases, including “feel safe,” “monthly rent,” “landlords,” and “host parties,” which communicate the basic ideas. However, the vocabulary is limited and some errors make the writing less clear or natural. Examples include “owinging,” “prefered,” and “benefical,” as well as the awkward phrase “rent paying.” “According to the will” does not express the intended idea naturally, and “for stay” is also an unsuitable phrase. Build a wider range of accurate expressions for discussing housing, security, independence and financial benefits, and check spelling and collocations carefully. More precise vocabulary would help you explain your reasons without repeating “beneficial” and “house.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
Most of the response uses short, simple sentence patterns, and the basic meaning is generally understandable. There is an attempt to give a reason with “Because it can be beneficial,” but this is not a complete sentence when separated from the preceding statement. Other grammatical problems include “having own house,” which needs an article or possessive determiner, and “There will be not stress,” where the negative form is incorrectly placed. The phrase “following the rules already told by to landlords” also has an unclear grammatical structure. The final sentence is incomplete. Practise forming complete sentences, using articles and negatives accurately, and combining simple clauses with controlled complex structures.
