IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 6.0)
In several countries having a home is considered more valuable and significant to the public. It is because people have a preference in them rather than renting places to live. From my perspective, i agree with this statement and it is more important to own home rather than rent it. So, this essay will discuss why i consider this situation as a positive aspect to the population, how it is being beneficial and offering more opportunities to the owners.
First and foremost, let's talk about the price of renting a particular aparment or house for one month. In our country, as the time passes the price of everything gradually increases because of the inflation. So, most of their salary who live in renting house goes to the wallet of the owner. Renting price can change whenever their owner desires to. So, it is a huge disadvantage for people who rent house.
On the other hand, people who own a home do not have to worry about renting prices every month, because they already paid for it entirely. Also, they can rent their home as an additional source of income. People who rent always moving from one place to another, whlist owning home means thay can live there as long as they want to. In public's opinion it is very important for life, because owning something always give its benefit later.
To summarize, owning a home is considered a great and beneficial, also i believe that the statement given is win-win scenario.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address both parts of the prompt: you explain why ownership is valued, especially through rising rents and the possibility of earning income by renting out a home, and you clearly regard this as positive. These are relevant reasons, and the contrast between renters and owners helps make your position understandable. However, the explanation of why ownership matters in some countries is only partly developed: the essay refers mainly to “our country” and does not explain broader factors such as security, cultural expectations, or long-term investment. The claim that owners have “already paid for it entirely” also overlooks mortgages and ongoing costs. Develop each reason with a more precise explanation or example to make the response more complete and convincing.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion. The ideas generally progress from the costs faced by renters to the advantages of ownership, and signposts such as “First and foremost” and “On the other hand” help show the intended contrast. However, some linking is mechanical, and the relationship between ideas is occasionally unclear. For example, “So, most of their salary who live in renting house goes to the wallet of the owner” is difficult to follow, while the final sentence introduces “win-win scenario” without clearly explaining what the two sides of that scenario are. Use clearer references and connect each supporting point explicitly to the main argument; this would make the progression smoother.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “inflation,” “additional source of income,” and “renting prices.” There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “considered more valuable and significant.” However, several choices are inaccurate or unnatural, which limits precision: “preference in them,” “goes to the wallet of the owner,” and “a great and beneficial” do not express the intended meaning naturally. Spelling errors such as “aparment,” “whlist,” and “thay” also reduce control. Aim for accurate collocations and a more consistent academic register—for example, describe rent as “a growing share of tenants’ income” rather than using an informal image.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a reason clause beginning “because” and a contrast introduced by “while.” The main message is usually understandable, but some grammatical errors affect clarity. Examples include “i agree” and “i consider,” where the pronoun needs capitalization, “own home” instead of “own a home,” and “people who rent always moving,” which needs a finite verb (“are always moving”). There are also agreement and sentence-construction problems in “most of their salary who live in renting house goes.” Work on articles, subject–verb agreement, and complete verb phrases, then proofread punctuation and capitalization. More accurate control of these patterns would make your varied sentence attempts easier to read.
