IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 6.5)
In recent decades, buying home has become a defining trend in contemporary society. In this context, a part of the society believes that in many nations, purchasing own house is significant compare to renting one for citizens. Notably, higher prices and enough space are the main reasons and I believe it is a positive situation. This essay discusses these perspectives to substantiate my viewpoint.
Ostensibly, in many countries, increasing prices of accommodation is ongoing issues. First and foremost, in urban areas of many nations, prices for purchasing houses are incredibly enhancing. This means that with the time prices are enhancing for house and if dwellers renting home instead of purchasing, in future they have to pay more for purchasing or for renting. Secondly, nowadays, city does not have enough space for building apartments or houses. This suggests that if people do not buy houses, it is the possibility that they do not buy their preferable house. For example, in Australia, Sydney does not have space for resedential area and now it build house in underground area. Hence, increasing prices and limited space are the main reasons.
Undoubtedly, purchasing own accommodation is efficacious. To coomence with, as people buying homes, government can think about the residential area. This means that when citizens are renting houses, it is hard for authorities to calculate the homes need. In addition, as people owning houses, they save significant amount of money. In other words, enhancing prices of homes will be more increasing in further time. For example, in India, in 2020, the houses price for purchasing were approximately 20,00,000; however, in 2025 it was doubled and it is the posibility to boost more. Ergo, owning homes are a positive situation.
To recapitulate, purchasing accommodation instead of renting is the case due to increament in prices and limited space and I believe it is pivotal as governmnet can think about the space and people can save their money. Thus, I believe in many nations, owning house is pivotal instead of renting.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The essay addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for the importance of home ownership and your opinion on whether this is positive. You clearly state your position in the introduction and maintain it throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. The argument regarding 'limited space' is a bit underdeveloped, and the example about Sydney building in 'underground areas' is factually questionable and lacks clarity. The economic argument is better supported, though the explanation of how government planning is aided by home ownership is slightly vague. To reach a higher band, ensure that your supporting examples are more logical and directly linked to the main point of the paragraph.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central topic. You use cohesive devices such as 'First and foremost', 'In addition', and 'To recapitulate' to guide the reader. However, the flow within paragraphs is occasionally hindered by mechanical phrasing and some awkward transitions. For instance, the link between government planning and home ownership is not fully articulated, making the progression of ideas feel a bit disjointed. Referencing is generally clear, but the use of some connectors feels repetitive or slightly forced. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'contemporary society', 'residential area', and 'efficacious'. However, there are several instances of word-choice errors and non-standard collocations, such as 'prices are incredibly enhancing' (should be 'rising' or 'increasing') and 'in further time' (should be 'in the future'). Some words are used incorrectly, such as 'resedential' (spelling error) and 'increament' (should be 'increase'). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your meaning, they limit the precision of your expression. Expanding your vocabulary to include more precise academic collocations would be beneficial.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this level. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, particularly with verb forms and articles (e.g., 'buying home' instead of 'buying a home', 'the houses price' instead of 'house prices', and 'it build house' instead of 'they build houses'). Subject-verb agreement and pluralization issues are also present. While these errors are noticeable, they rarely impede communication. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic article usage and ensuring consistent verb tense and agreement, especially when discussing general trends.
