IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 5.5)
In recent times, large number of individuals prefer to buy own house or property rather than renting in many countries and is very crucial to people. In my opinion,it is a positive development because we get full of freedom without any rules and regulations.
Firstly, there are few reasons for people owning houses rather than renting because people don't get freedom and distrubance from surroundings. For example, the furniture should maintaned is good way and avoiding scracthes to wall and lot of rules for families also.one more reason is that they have to pay house rent in time without any delays to owner. In addition, the house is not under surveillance with less security. This leads to robbery and unsafe for youngsters.
Whereas, by having own property can solve the above problems.it provides freedom to family and choose they life as they live. Moreover, we can enhance the security by installing the cameras and monitoring through the system. However,we have our own rules and regultions to live in house. For instance, we can use lot of water and we can come to home at any time without any objections from others.
In conclusion,by renting the properties leads to limited access and less security with low facilities. In contrast, the having own house we can easily eliminate these problems.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt, identifying reasons for home ownership and expressing a clear opinion. However, the essay is significantly under the 250-word minimum, which limits the depth of the arguments. The ideas provided, such as freedom from landlord rules and security concerns, are relevant but remain underdeveloped due to the brevity of the response. To improve, you should expand on your points with more detailed explanations and specific examples to meet the length requirement and provide a more comprehensive analysis of the topic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, and there is a basic attempt at logical progression. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or repetitive (e.g., 'Firstly', 'In addition', 'Moreover', 'In conclusion'). Some transitions are awkward, such as 'Whereas, by having own property can solve the above problems', which lacks a clear subject. The referencing is sometimes unclear, and the flow between sentences is occasionally disjointed. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear, unified focus would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for a higher band. There are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'get full of freedom', 'distrubance from surroundings', and 'maintaned is good way'. Spelling errors like 'distrubance', 'maintaned', 'scracthes', and 'regultions' are also present. To improve, focus on learning collocations and more sophisticated vocabulary related to housing and social issues, and pay closer attention to spelling and word forms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response relies heavily on simple sentence structures. While there are attempts at complex sentences, they often contain grammatical errors, such as 'the furniture should maintaned is good way' and 'the having own house we can easily eliminate'. There are frequent errors in articles, subject-verb agreement, and prepositions (e.g., 'come to home', 'in time without any delays to owner'). These errors are noticeable and occasionally impede the flow of the text. You should practice using a wider variety of complex structures and focus on correcting basic grammatical inaccuracies.
