In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?

Student answer (Band 6.5)

The people in many countries prefer owning a home rather than renting is very important for people. This is because home ownership provides a sense of security and a financial success. I think that it is a good development, although it also creates some challenges.

The one thing people buy house it gives the long term stability. If the people own the house then there is need to give rent and people can also decorate it in there own way. The good surrounding also impact on the children's. If the home is own by people we can do anything that we want to add in our home.

I believe that it is a good development to own a home. The people can also be friendly with neighborhood as they can help us in difficult situations the people can take care of our children. The good surrounding also help children for good development. If the home is own by people they can take care of there home. The good home also gives us a relaxed and fresh mood. There are also some drawbacks to it like, the price of the property can be very high, forcing people to take large loans amount for the best home to buy in a good society. There is a financial burden on people as the loan amount is big it gives stress to them.

In conclusion, owning a home is a good development and people should buy the home there are some financial burden on people but it can be clear as the time goes. The people should buy home rather than renting.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for the importance of home ownership and the writer's opinion on whether it is positive or negative. However, the development of ideas is somewhat repetitive and lacks depth. For instance, the points regarding 'stability' and 'children' are mentioned in multiple paragraphs without significant expansion. The position is clear, but the supporting arguments are simplistic and rely on general statements rather than well-developed reasoning. To reach a higher band, you should aim to provide more specific examples or nuanced explanations for your claims, such as discussing the long-term economic benefits versus the immediate strain of mortgage repayments.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of ideas. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical and repetitive. Phrases like 'The good surrounding' and 'If the home is own by people' are used frequently, which disrupts the flow. Additionally, some sentences lack clear logical connections, such as the transition between the benefits of home ownership and the paragraph regarding neighborhood relationships. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task but remains quite basic and repetitive. There is a limited range of academic or topic-specific vocabulary. For example, the word 'good' is used repeatedly to describe developments, surroundings, and homes, which limits the precision of your writing. There are also some errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'financial success' (when referring to security) and 'the home is own by people' (should be 'owned'). To improve, try to incorporate more precise synonyms and collocations related to finance and housing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'the price of the property can be very high... forcing people to take large loans amount'), incorrect passive voice usage ('the home is own by people'), and missing articles or prepositions. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to distract the reader. You should focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like verb tense consistency and pluralization.
