In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Nowadays, owning a home is considered an important goal in many countries. While many people prefer purchasing a house instead of renting one, there are several reasons for this trend. This essay will discuss the reason behind this phenomenon and explain why I believe it is a positive development.
There are several reasons why many people prefer owning a home. One major reason is that they can rent a room to people who are difficulties with finding a new house. This is because some countries do not have enough apartments or houses for their residents. For example, a lot of residents rent their houses to people when they are not home. Another reason is that, the price of apartment and house is very affordable in some countries. For example, United States because their economy is very stable so they can get a home. Consequently, this the reasons why owning a home is better than renting.
I believe this is a positive development for several reasons. Firstly, It creates stability for families. For instance, if you own a home children don't have to move frequently. Because moving process gives stress for kids and It feels heavy for them. Furthermore, they don't have to worry about rising rent. Therefore, you have to own a house if you want stable, calm, no rent pressure.
In conclusion, people prefer owning a home because they don't have to worry about money and don't feel pressure from a landlord. Overall, I believe this trend is a positive improvement because if you want to improve quality life.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for the importance of home ownership and the writer's opinion on whether it is positive or negative. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. The explanation regarding renting out rooms is a bit tangential to the core reasons for the cultural importance of ownership, and the example of the United States is factually questionable in the context of 'affordable' housing. While the position is clear, the arguments lack depth and could be better supported with more nuanced reasoning. To reach a higher band, ensure that your arguments directly address the 'why' with more logical depth rather than relying on generalisations.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organised into clear paragraphs, and there is a logical progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Firstly', 'Furthermore', and 'In conclusion', though some transitions feel a bit mechanical or repetitive. Referencing is generally clear, but there are instances where the connection between sentences could be smoother. For example, the transition between the discussion of renting rooms and the affordability of houses is abrupt. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a strong topic sentence would enhance the overall flow and coherence of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You use basic terms like 'important goal', 'very stable', and 'very affordable'. While these communicate your meaning effectively, they do not demonstrate a wide range of vocabulary. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'they can rent a room to people who are difficulties with finding a new house' (should be 'who have difficulty'). To improve, try to incorporate more topic-specific collocations and less common lexical items to express your ideas with greater sophistication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the reader's flow. Examples include 'the price of apartment and house is very affordable' (missing articles), 'this the reasons why' (missing verb), and 'moving process gives stress for kids' (missing article/preposition). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on subject-verb agreement, article usage, and sentence construction will significantly improve your score.
