IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 6.5)
In many countries purchase a home rather than renting one is very important for people because people think that owning a home is status of symbol and also financial stability. So, i think this is a positive effect on people.
On the one hand, people purchase a home for society symbol. because nowadays in our society if some one has no personal house or apartment than it considered like they have no money or they are not capable for owning home. So, with this burden, people like to buy home first rather than renting it. Second thing is that, in own house there is no tension of landlord. For example, in rental house if there is problem with house or landlord than its a tension to sift from there to another rental house. whereas, rent which people pay every months is waste of money rather than this government now provide long term loans for houses so if people take this loan and own house it would be profitable for them long term.
On the other hand, some people thought that houses are very expensive to buy. But in today's era property's value goes up and up so if people buy house it would be profitable. In addition, after owning home people feel very safe. Because in our culture all parents leave property to their children for their future.
In conclusion, a home is expensive to buy but it gives safety, financial stability and relief which are overcome to money. So, buying a home is positive situation for people.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for the importance of home ownership and the writer's opinion on whether this is positive. The ideas are relevant, covering social status, financial stability, and security. However, the development is somewhat superficial. For instance, the argument regarding 'society symbol' is repetitive, and the explanation of government loans is a bit simplistic. To reach a higher band, you should provide more nuanced examples or deeper analysis of the long-term economic implications. The position is clear throughout, but the supporting arguments would benefit from more sophisticated reasoning to fully satisfy the requirements of a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use some cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'In addition', and 'In conclusion' to guide the reader. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and there are instances where referencing is unclear, such as 'Second thing is that' or 'which are overcome to money'. The use of linking words is functional but lacks the flexibility and natural progression required for a higher band. Improving the variety of transition signals and ensuring that each sentence connects smoothly to the next would enhance the overall coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to express your ideas clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'financial stability', 'long term loans', and 'property's value'. However, there are several instances of awkward phrasing and incorrect collocations, such as 'status of symbol' instead of 'status symbol' and 'sift from there' instead of 'shift/move'. The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited, and there is a tendency to repeat basic words. To improve, focus on learning more precise collocations and academic vocabulary to convey your points with greater sophistication and accuracy.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('a home', 'the government'), subject-verb agreement ('houses are very expensive'), and word order. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some run-on sentences and missing commas. For example, 'if some one has no personal house or apartment than it considered' contains multiple errors. To achieve a higher score, you need to demonstrate better control over complex structures and reduce the frequency of basic grammatical slips, ensuring that your sentences are more consistently error-free.
