Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for the importance of home ownership and an opinion on whether this is positive or negative. However, the development of ideas is somewhat inconsistent. The essay struggles with the prompt's premise, as the body paragraphs focus on reasons for renting rather than explaining why ownership is considered important in many countries. While the position is clear, the arguments lack depth and rely on generalizations. To improve, you should ensure that your body paragraphs directly address the specific questions asked in the prompt and provide more detailed, logical explanations for your claims.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate, such as the misuse of 'Whereas' at the start of a sentence and the repetitive use of 'due to that'. The progression of ideas is sometimes hindered by awkward phrasing, making it difficult to follow the logical flow between sentences. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus that transitions smoothly into the next.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for a higher band. There are several instances of awkward word choices and incorrect collocations, such as 'give rent', 'save finding', and 'emergence situations' (likely meaning 'emergency'). These errors occasionally impede the clarity of your message. To improve, focus on learning common collocations related to housing and finance, and try to use more precise terminology to express your ideas rather than relying on basic or incorrectly used vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay relies heavily on simple sentence structures, and attempts at complex sentences are frequently marred by grammatical errors. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'houses have very expensive'), incorrect verb forms (e.g., 'residents have been liked to living'), and missing articles. These errors occur frequently and sometimes make the meaning difficult to grasp. To improve, work on mastering basic sentence construction, particularly the use of articles, prepositions, and verb tenses. Reducing the frequency of these errors is essential for achieving a higher score.
