Student answer (Band 6.0)
People in some countries prefer having their own house instead of renting one. Why people think like this and I believe this is a positive situation.
owing to financial stability and having a freedom to modify their home, they have a preference to owing a home. Having a own house give opportunities for people who want to make their property and want to become stable. Parents also try their best in making property for their children. In addition there is fully freedom for those people who want to amend their houses for decoration as well as long-lived. Ultimately, this works only that condition if they have their own home. Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for home ownership and the writer's opinion on whether it is positive. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the argument regarding 'financial stability' is mentioned but not fully explained or supported with robust reasoning. The response also falls slightly short of the 250-word minimum requirement, which impacts the overall task completion. While the position is clear, the supporting arguments lack the depth and extension required for a higher band score. To improve, ensure each main point is supported by a clear explanation and a specific, well-integrated example.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. Phrases like 'Turning to second question' and 'In addition there is fully freedom' show a limited control of linking words. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the flow between sentences is occasionally disjointed. While there is an overall progression, the lack of sophisticated transitions makes the text feel somewhat repetitive. Improving the variety of cohesive devices and ensuring they are used naturally would significantly enhance the coherence of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range expected at higher levels. There are several instances of awkward word choices and collocations, such as 'amend their houses' instead of 'renovate' or 'modify', and 'long-lived financial stability' instead of 'long-term'. Some phrases are repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'making wealth' and 'long-lived'. While the meaning is generally clear, the limited range of vocabulary and the errors in word choice prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. Expanding your vocabulary to include more academic collocations would be beneficial.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('Having a own house give opportunities'), incorrect article usage ('a own house'), and awkward phrasing ('there is fully freedom'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to distract the reader. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors such as articles, pluralisation, and verb forms.
