Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for the importance of home ownership and an opinion on whether it is positive or negative. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the points regarding 'financial security' and 'flexibility' are mentioned but not fully explored or supported with clear examples. The position is clear, but the conclusion is brief and lacks a nuanced summary of the arguments presented. To improve, you should aim to expand on your points with more specific explanations or real-world examples to demonstrate a deeper understanding of the topic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive. Phrases like 'Also' and 'There will be' are used frequently to start sentences, which limits the flow. Additionally, some transitions between ideas are abrupt, such as the shift from the benefits of home ownership to the drawbacks. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence would significantly enhance the overall coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and range required for a higher band. There are several spelling errors (e.g., 'beilieve', 'profites', 'indepentance', 'prayority', 'mantince', 'finicial', 'thinf') and word choice issues (e.g., 'not carry' instead of 'not worry'). While the meaning is usually clear, the limited range of vocabulary and the frequency of spelling mistakes hinder the overall quality. To improve, focus on learning the correct spelling of common academic terms and try to incorporate more sophisticated synonyms for basic words.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay relies heavily on simple sentence structures, and there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'Owning a house have'), missing articles, and incorrect word forms (e.g., 'there will be also and additional expenses'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to be distracting. To reach a higher band, you need to practice using a wider variety of complex sentence structures, such as relative clauses or conditional sentences, and pay closer attention to basic grammatical accuracy, particularly with verb tenses and pluralization.
