IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 6.5)
This is an undeniable fact that few folks think about purcashing their own House over renting one for the betterment of their future, while it maybe seems for others to have a bad impact on financial conditions as well. In this fast paced world ,although people are aware of the consequences for not owning a home they still tend to believe this as a plus point fornthem to save money. This essay will continue to highlight few points why people buying their own houses is the best thing that they can do.
To begin with ,the primary reason which i think for buying a house is stability that we get ,no landlords ,no monthly dues, and other than that is privacy.Consequently the stability is the plus point which gives a person a type of satisfaction ,that even if they dont earn for living a lavish life they can easily rely on a simple lunch and dinner for a day in and out.
Despite of this the people who tend to think they will live in a rented house and live a lavish lifestyle outside from it ,may suffer in future for getting kicked out by landlords when the pays are due.For instance there can be a medical issue or business loss in future which will lead to loss in finance, and that could be one of the couple reasons for getting dues back to back.
The discussion on this issue may continue ,however after considering both perspectives ,i believe that ,the famous line 'Home Sweet Home' is written on some purpose and that is the reason why people feel to purchase their own home instead of renting one.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: why home ownership is important and whether it is a positive or negative situation. However, the development of ideas is limited. While you mention stability and privacy, the explanation remains somewhat superficial. The argument regarding the 'positive' nature of ownership is clear, but the discussion of the 'negative' side is underdeveloped and lacks depth. To improve, ensure that each body paragraph provides a more detailed explanation and a concrete example to support your claims. Your position is consistent throughout, but the overall depth of analysis needs to be expanded to reach higher bands.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use some cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Consequently', and 'Despite of this'. However, some transitions feel mechanical or slightly misused, such as 'Despite of this' (which should be 'Despite this' or 'In spite of this'). The progression of ideas is generally logical, but the connection between sentences could be smoother. The final paragraph is quite brief and does not fully synthesise the arguments presented earlier. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring they are used accurately will enhance the flow of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. There are several spelling errors, such as 'purcashing' and 'fornthem', and some informal phrasing like 'few folks' and 'kicked out'. While you attempt to use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'financial conditions' and 'stability', the overall range is limited. To improve, focus on using more academic collocations and synonyms to avoid repetition. Ensure you proofread carefully to eliminate basic spelling mistakes, as these can distract the reader and lower the overall quality of your lexical expression.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, including issues with article usage ('the primary reason which i think for buying a house'), subject-verb agreement, and punctuation. For example, 'This is an undeniable fact that few folks think about...' is slightly awkward. There are also errors in sentence construction, such as '...even if they dont earn for living a lavish life they can easily rely on a simple lunch and dinner'. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence patterns and punctuation, and then work on incorporating more complex structures with greater accuracy to ensure your meaning is always clear.
