Student answer (Band 6.5)

For many people owning a home is end goal of life in some countries while others believe that leasing a home can also be an option because owning it might be expensive for some people. I believe that, owning a home is more beneficial because a home provides a sense of stability in life and can have a place they can return to in tough times.

The most significant reason for this view is that home, however sound, a familiar place to an individual as after long and hectic day at workplace people often want to get unwind their mind and body which, is only possible in their own home. Another reason, people can decorate own home with their taste and create a comfortable place with matching furniture and paint wall with their favorite color.

While it is true that owning a home is difficult for many people especially for lower income household. However, renting can be more costly in the long term as expense on renting will take place both ways, so people can take loan and invest their money to purchase their home. Furthermore, an individual can rent their home to pay monthly EMI which will help them in a financial aspect. By doing this, profit can also be generated from the rent additionally they will also own a place.

To conclude, home can generate the feeling of belonging to a place whereas, renting means moving from one to place another when lease is over. Moreover, profit can also be generated.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: it explains why home ownership is important and provides a clear opinion that it is a positive situation. The ideas regarding stability, personalization, and financial investment are relevant. However, the development is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument about renting being 'costly in the long term' is a good point, but it lacks depth in its explanation. The conclusion is a bit repetitive and does not fully synthesize the points made. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your arguments with more specific examples or deeper analysis of the implications of home ownership versus renting.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use some cohesive devices such as 'The most significant reason', 'Another reason', 'While it is true', and 'To conclude'. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and there are instances where the connection between ideas is slightly disjointed, such as the transition between the second and third paragraphs. The use of referencing is occasionally unclear, for example, 'expense on renting will take place both ways' is confusing. Improving the variety and precision of your linking words will help the essay flow more naturally.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to express your ideas clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'EMI', 'lease', and 'financial aspect'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'get unwind their mind' (should be 'unwind') and 'paint wall with their favorite color' (missing articles). The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited, relying on fairly common words. To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic collocations and ensure that your word forms are accurate in context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is a good start. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow of reading. Examples include missing articles ('owning a home is end goal'), subject-verb agreement issues ('people can decorate own home'), and punctuation errors (unnecessary commas, such as 'body which, is only possible'). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your main points, they occur frequently enough to limit your score. Focus on proofreading for basic grammar, particularly articles, prepositions, and sentence punctuation.
