IELTS Writing Task 2 question

In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?

Student answer (Band 5.0)

In many countries owning a house is better than renting. it is very paramount for our life beacuse own house is a need for families and living with a freedom. but renting houses is also important fro those people who did not afford their own house. I think both have positive snd negative impact for our lives. Enviornment , social society.

In this essay, I also agree thaht about own housing ownership. in one one society or area own house is better instead of renting. the reason is that you are free from the loan or any renting system. you invest your money with any bussiness instead of renting. you can live with independently, living the peaceful enivornment. For instance you have to depend on your self ypu can do anyuthing in their own home, adorn youn house with your own ideas. But some people who are going in foreign countries they live in a hotel room or aportmenrt, It would be better for international students or any person who did not afford their own house. However government should provide a rential houses free for students who live peacefully and only focus on their study instead of the worry about the loan or pay the rent.

Another things of this essay that is the negative and positive situation, in my point of view it effect both. For example if a person take a loan and then buy their house in the well society he live in with their family but he has face difficulties and did not able to pay loan that thing effect him and he leave the house. but if government should they provide the huoses in low budget or in instalment than many of people and families buy their own house. Fox example our prime minister Maryam Nawaz shareef has provide the housing scheme in pakistan and its help for many people. owning thier own house is effect the children life and their future, enviornment of the societies or areas also affect them. But in a renting system that has a little bit a negative impact For example some of bilding enviornment are not proper good some are bad habitate people or the noisy arean or pollution. but it a better for a one person who live or other countries. because they live isolated and the rent budget is low or rent price is very low than that is good for them who live alone but with families it is difficult for all.

To conclude the whole topic it would said that the owning the house is better than the renting. i believe that their own house is you can live with freely did not depend on loan or another home responsbilities.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for the importance of home ownership and an opinion on whether this is positive or negative. However, the development of ideas is inconsistent. While you provide some reasons, such as financial independence and personal freedom, the arguments are often repetitive and lack depth. The discussion regarding the 'positive or negative' aspect is somewhat muddled, as you shift between perspectives without a clear, sustained argument. To improve, ensure each paragraph focuses on a single, well-developed idea supported by clear examples, rather than listing multiple points that are not fully explored.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the internal structure is weak. The progression of ideas is often disjointed, making it difficult for the reader to follow your logic. Cohesive devices are used, but they are frequently mechanical or misused (e.g., 'Another things of this essay that is...'). Referencing is also unclear at times, particularly when you switch between discussing home ownership and renting. To reach a higher band, focus on using transition words more naturally and ensure that each sentence logically follows the previous one to create a smoother flow of information.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and often repetitive. You rely on basic terms like 'good', 'bad', and 'better' throughout the text. There are also frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'well society' instead of 'prosperous neighborhood' or 'bad habitate' instead of 'poor living conditions'. Spelling errors are pervasive (e.g., 'beacuse', 'bussiness', 'aportmenrt', 'bilding'), which occasionally makes the text difficult to read. To improve, try to learn and use more precise vocabulary related to housing and economics, and pay closer attention to the spelling of common words.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a high frequency of grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('it effect both'), missing articles ('in one one society'), and incorrect sentence structures. While you attempt some complex sentences, they are often fragmented or contain errors that impede clarity. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with many run-on sentences and incorrect comma usage. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence structures before attempting more complex ones. Proofreading for common errors like verb tense consistency and singular/plural agreement will significantly enhance the readability of your writing.
