IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 5.0)
Actually, in the formal of many countries in the real time now many of them also having the ideas to having their own place to live more than just giving the money every month of year.
There are many ways to having a nice and safe reason to an ideal which is considered to be a culture in some countries but i think the most reliable answer is their own financial and their trust of doing what good for themself, sometimes this money for buying a house is actually too much and they can't afford it, like a person who have 2000$ a month so they can just trying to have enough food and some certain thing they think that's what they must have.
To be honest, in this struggle situation many people will choose the safest way not the way they need to risking their life, therefore, i think this is a positive situation for someone who just started their job or their first time in some strange place they don't know but this might lead to some negative position that can be too bad for personal because normally if someone renting a house the first thing i will say they are kind of alone which cause some actual diseases to people who did rented a house.
In consequence, there are still many advantages and disadvantages for many people when they thinking to have a house or renting a place to leave so they will need to take many ideas to get the most comfortable that fit their ideal and their financial.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt, identifying reasons for home ownership and offering an opinion on whether it is positive or negative. However, the development of ideas is limited and often unclear. For instance, the argument regarding 'diseases' caused by renting is vague and lacks logical support. The position is present but not consistently maintained or clearly articulated throughout the essay. The ideas are somewhat repetitive and lack the depth required for a higher band score, as the connection between financial constraints and the cultural importance of home ownership is not fully explored.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the internal structure is weak. While there are some attempts at cohesive devices like 'In consequence' and 'therefore', they are often used incorrectly or do not logically connect the preceding and following ideas. The progression of ideas is disjointed, making it difficult for the reader to follow the argument. Referencing is sometimes unclear, such as the use of 'they' and 'their' without specific antecedents. The overall flow is hampered by these mechanical issues, which impede the logical development of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and often imprecise. There is a reliance on basic, repetitive language (e.g., 'nice', 'good', 'bad', 'thing'). Some word choices are awkward or incorrect, such as 'in the formal of many countries' or 'negative position' instead of 'negative situation'. There is little evidence of less common lexical items or an awareness of collocation. The errors in word choice occasionally cause confusion, though the general meaning remains discernible. To improve, the student should focus on using more precise academic vocabulary and learning common collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that affect the clarity of the writing. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'many of them also having'), incorrect verb forms (e.g., 'ways to having'), and sentence structure (e.g., run-on sentences). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some sentences lacking proper termination. While there is an attempt to use complex structures, they are frequently faulty, leading to a lack of control over grammar. The majority of sentences contain errors, which places the response firmly in the lower band range for this criterion.
