Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt, identifying reasons for home ownership and expressing a preference for renting. However, the development is limited. The ideas regarding 'renovating' (spelled as 'ranowait') and the financial benefits of renting are repetitive and lack depth. The argument is somewhat simplistic, and the connection between the reasons provided and the overall position is not fully explored. To improve, you should aim to expand your points with specific examples or logical explanations rather than repeating the same concepts. The conclusion is also very brief and does not effectively summarize the main arguments presented in the body paragraphs.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organized into three short paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is disjointed. There is a lack of effective cohesive devices; sentences are often linked by simple conjunctions or lack transitions entirely, making the flow feel mechanical. For example, the transition between the discussion of renovation and the benefits of renting is abrupt. Referencing is sometimes unclear, such as the use of 'they' and 'the people' without specific antecedents. To improve, use a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'in contrast') to guide the reader through your arguments and ensure each paragraph has a clear, singular focus.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive, which restricts the ability to convey complex ideas. There are frequent spelling errors that occasionally impede understanding, such as 'ranowait' for 'renovate', 'expansives' for 'expenses', and 'misshapp' for 'mishap'. The word choice is often imprecise, such as 'complete the house needing' instead of 'meet household needs'. To reach a higher band, you need to work on using a broader range of vocabulary, including collocations and topic-specific terms related to housing and finance. Proofreading for basic spelling and ensuring you use words in their correct context is essential.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that affect the clarity of the writing. There are issues with subject-verb agreement ('There is very good to owned'), incorrect verb forms ('they can be able to but a house'), and sentence structure. Many sentences are simple or contain errors that make them difficult to parse. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after periods and commas. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence structures, specifically subject-verb-object patterns, and ensure you are using correct verb tenses consistently. Reducing the number of errors in basic grammar is necessary before attempting more complex structures.
