IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 5.0)
Home is very important in society without home the people faces many problems such as low status in society so i think this is negative situation.
In over society the home is very important as compare to rental place because without home the people face many problems such as lower status in over society and on the other when people live a life in rental homes they face many problems such as rent giving and poor status but on the other hand in owned house there is no problem other peoples see you you with the respect and you don't need to worries about rent money you easily lives their life without any hesitation and your family lives freely life and you got a respect when you live in their own house but on the other hand when you live in rent home the relatives never visit your rental home and unfortunately when he comes they talks about your financial situations but when you own a home you got many facilitates in markets when you want a loan so banks easily passed your loan easily because you owned a home but on the other hand when you live in rental home banks never grants your loan easily but in society the people never gives you loan for example in my family my uncle lives in rental home in my family no body like him because they does not have his home.
I think it is negative situation when you have not home and you lives in rent home this is very painful situation for his person who lives rental life.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt, identifying reasons for the importance of home ownership and expressing a clear, albeit repetitive, position that it is a negative situation to rent. However, the development of ideas is limited. The arguments regarding social status and bank loans are presented but lack depth or logical expansion. The essay relies heavily on personal anecdotes and generalizations rather than a balanced academic discussion. To improve, you should aim to structure your arguments more formally, providing clear topic sentences and supporting evidence for each point, rather than repeating the same ideas about 'status' and 'rent' throughout the text.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay lacks a clear paragraph structure, consisting of one very long, run-on paragraph. This makes the progression of ideas difficult to follow. Cohesive devices are used, but they are often repetitive (e.g., 'on the other hand' is used four times in a way that does not always contrast ideas correctly). There is a lack of logical sequencing, and the transition between the reasons for home ownership and the evaluation of the situation is blurred. To reach a higher band, you must organize your response into distinct paragraphs—one for the reasons and one for your opinion—and use a wider variety of linking words to connect your ideas smoothly.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive, often relying on basic terms like 'problems', 'important', and 'life'. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'rent giving', 'lives their life', and 'facilitates in markets'. The phrasing is often unnatural, which hinders the flow of the argument. To improve, you should focus on learning topic-specific vocabulary related to housing, finance, and social issues. Using more precise terminology will help you express your ideas with greater clarity and sophistication, moving away from the current repetitive and simplistic language.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede communication. There are significant issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'the people faces', 'he comes they talks'), article usage, and sentence structure. Many sentences are run-on, lacking proper punctuation, which makes them difficult to parse. There is very little evidence of complex sentence structures, and the control over basic grammar is inconsistent. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring that subjects and verbs agree, and using punctuation to separate distinct thoughts. Practicing the use of relative clauses and conditional sentences would also help improve your grammatical range.
