IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 6.0)
In today's world, people has become advanced significantly and also the living of standard has raised. In fewer countries it is believed that renting an apartment or home is pivotal rather than owning a home. I believe, this is a positive development as living on rent allows them to maintain sufficient funds for their upcoming future instead using all money together to buy home.
To begin with, owning home require a lot of money and time. People invest more time to find suitable land, architectural expenses, paper work related to property registration. To exemplify this, even a average salaried person, who wanted to build their own home, work delicately to maintained their own and family's standard of living. Therefore, it usually require lucrative income and time to achieve their own home. As a result, this is the reason people prefer to living in renting apartments.
In addition to this, people have fewer maintenance responsibilities and easily relocate. People living in rented homes, flats are not bother about the maintenance. They heavily rely on landlords for the small breakages and maintenance. For an instance, a individual who owned home have certain responsibilities, when they needs to visit out of town have worried about their home and basic amenities available, Conversely, the one who is already living in rented flat is much sorted about such things. Furthermore, people who living in rented home are flexible enough to switch jobs and relocate easily to another city as per their carrier demand. Therefore, it is evident that renting home is more suitable choice for everyone rather than owning a home.
To conclude, renting flats allows one to fulfill basic living standard. Although, people less bother about maintenance charges and are able to relocate according to their desired jobs. Hence, I believe it is the positive development as it give ones right to choose jobs in different location instead of having fear of leave their own home.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: explaining why home ownership is important and providing a personal opinion on whether this is positive or negative. However, the development of ideas is somewhat inconsistent. While the points regarding financial flexibility and mobility are relevant, the argument is slightly weakened by a misunderstanding of the prompt's premise in the introduction, where you suggest that renting is considered pivotal in 'fewer countries' rather than addressing the global trend of valuing ownership. The position is clear throughout, but the supporting arguments could be more nuanced to reach a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, each with a clear central theme. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with,' 'In addition to this,' and 'To conclude' are used to guide the reader. However, the flow is occasionally hindered by mechanical phrasing and some awkward transitions. For instance, the use of 'Conversely, the one who is already living in rented flat is much sorted about such things' is slightly informal and lacks precision. Referencing is generally clear, but the connection between sentences could be smoother to improve the overall progression of ideas.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your ideas clearly. You attempt some less common collocations like 'lucrative income' and 'architectural expenses,' though some word choices are slightly inaccurate or unnatural, such as 'much sorted' or 'living of standard.' There are also minor errors in word formation, such as 'carrier demand' instead of 'career demand.' To improve, focus on using more precise academic vocabulary and ensuring that collocations are used in their correct context to enhance the sophistication of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('people has become,' 'owning home require'), article usage ('an average salaried person'), and missing prepositions or incorrect verb forms ('people prefer to living,' 'people less bother'). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your main points, they indicate a lack of control over more complex structures. Increasing your accuracy in basic grammar will significantly improve your score.
