IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 5.5)
Definitely. In some countries owning a home rather than renting is very crucial for people.
The Main reason of this case is that people feel more financially and physically secure in his own house rather than the renting. the people do not want the such hectic of paying rent on monthly basis with knowing that this house can never be come in their posession of such method. and own house provides people mentaly peace and confident, because they know nobody can kick out them from his own house. for instance, people can decorate and modify their houses as they want without any difficulty.
In my Opinion, this is a right approach to owning a house rather then renting. because own a house is a person personal asset and they can sell it whenever they want without any difficulty and used their amount according to need. another postive effect is that house prices increasing with the passage of time and give good return on investment. fro example, a person buying a own house today and after the ten years the price of the house multiply 3x automaticaly which provides a good profit on investment of buying it. in addition, a family who live in their house they do not need to pay the rent and it can helps them in saving and they can use this money in a better way. if we see in society people who own their house have significant present rather then renting people.
At Last. Living in his own house is far much better for mental peace and himself security rather then living in a renting house.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for the importance of home ownership and the writer's opinion on whether this is positive. The ideas are relevant, such as financial security and investment potential. However, the development is somewhat limited and repetitive. The arguments are presented in a basic manner, and the conclusion is brief. To reach a higher band, the student should expand on the implications of these points with more sophisticated reasoning and clearer examples. The position is clear throughout, but the depth of analysis is consistent with a mid-level response.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the argument. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. For example, phrases like 'In my Opinion' and 'At Last' are used somewhat awkwardly. There are also issues with referencing; the use of pronouns like 'his' and 'they' is occasionally confusing, as the antecedent is not always clear. The flow between sentences is sometimes disjointed, making the progression of ideas feel a bit repetitive rather than building logically toward a strong conclusion.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks range and precision. The student relies on basic terms and makes frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'hectic of paying rent' instead of 'burden of paying rent' and 'significant present' instead of 'higher social status'. There are also several spelling errors (e.g., 'mentaly', 'posession', 'fro'). While the meaning is generally clear, the limited range of vocabulary and the recurring errors prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. More precise academic terminology is needed.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but the accuracy is inconsistent. There are frequent errors in subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'house prices increasing'), article usage, and sentence construction (e.g., 'the people do not want the such hectic'). Punctuation is also problematic, with inconsistent capitalization and sentence fragments. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to distract the reader and indicate a lack of control over complex grammatical forms. More attention to basic syntax and proofreading is required.
