Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 165 words. This significantly impacts the development of ideas. While the essay attempts to address why home ownership is important and whether renting is positive or negative, the arguments are underdeveloped and lack sufficient supporting evidence. The prompt asks for a discussion on the importance of ownership, but the essay focuses primarily on urbanization and pollution, barely touching upon the cultural or financial significance of owning a home. The position is not clearly maintained throughout, and the brevity prevents a full exploration of the task requirements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organized into short paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. While some cohesive devices are used, such as 'Firstly' and 'Other hand', they are often used incorrectly or in a mechanical fashion. The transition between the importance of home ownership and the benefits of renting is abrupt and lacks a clear argumentative link. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the overall structure feels fragmented due to the lack of sufficient content to connect the ideas effectively.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. There are several instances of awkward word choices and incorrect collocations, such as 'productive land degraded' and 'convention energy resource'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to express complex ideas, and the errors occasionally make the intended meaning difficult to follow. To improve, you should focus on learning topic-specific collocations related to housing and urban development, and work on using more precise academic vocabulary rather than basic, general terms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement, such as 'Every living being... have' and 'pollution and hazards is'. Articles are frequently misused or omitted, for example, 'in the urban areas' and 'renting the house'. The sentence structures are mostly simple, and attempts at complex sentences are often faulty. Punctuation is also inconsistent. A significant improvement in basic grammatical accuracy and a wider variety of sentence structures are required to achieve a higher band score.
