Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for the importance of home ownership and the writer's opinion on whether this is positive or negative. The ideas are relevant, such as the desire for autonomy and the financial benefits of home ownership. However, the development is somewhat repetitive, and the explanation of why this is a 'positive' situation is slightly underdeveloped. The argument relies on generalisations, such as the claim that all rental houses have 'so many demerits'. To improve, the writer should provide more nuanced analysis and ensure that the position is consistently maintained throughout the essay.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, and there is a clear attempt to use cohesive devices like 'To begin with', 'Moreover', and 'To conclude'. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly unnatural, such as 'To support' as a transition for the second body paragraph. Additionally, referencing is occasionally unclear, and the flow between sentences is sometimes disjointed. The logical progression is present but could be smoother. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring they are used in the correct context would help elevate the score.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are several instances of awkward collocations and word choices, such as 'appreciative income' instead of 'tax revenue' and 'subsequent amount' instead of 'significant amount'. The phrase 'every person in earth' is also non-standard. While the writer attempts to use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'collateral' and 'EMI', the overall range is limited. To reach a higher band, the student should focus on learning more precise academic collocations and avoiding repetitive or misused terminology.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('every person want'), article usage ('the China government'), and incorrect prepositional phrases ('in lieu of rent a house'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with apostrophes ('documents'', 'land lord'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to distract the reader. The writer needs to focus on basic grammatical accuracy and proofreading to ensure that complex structures are used correctly.
