IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 5.5)
It is seen as in several countries, it is important to owning a home instead of survive in a rental house for individuals. This is because people suffering from rent fee and other issues such as safety, that is why they prefer their own home. However, It has some positive circumstances as well negative impact which is discussed in the essay.
In the first place, It is beneficial for the people who buy house for themselves as it saves their income rather then pay monthly in rent house. Furthermore individuals feel safe in their own houses and they are not afraid of anyone who will pressurized them to leave the house and also they do not care much about damage of anything in the house. For instance, if a person has their own home, so they will design their house like how they want them means they decorate them and paint them by their favorite colors. That is why people give importance to owning a house instead of reside in a rent house.
On the other hand, It has few of the negative situations like when people buy a house because of society pressure as they consider owning a house as important thing, so they will suffer from money because they spent their whole money by making a house. By this, they are not spending much money other things and feel difficulty for some time.
By the end, I believe that owning a home has both advantages and disadvantages but it has more positive situations as this will secure the life of individual and they can survive peacefully in a society.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The essay addresses both parts of the prompt: why home ownership is important and whether it is a positive or negative situation. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention financial savings and security as reasons for ownership, the explanation remains superficial. The discussion regarding the negative aspects is also brief and lacks depth, focusing primarily on financial strain due to social pressure. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your arguments with more specific examples or deeper analysis. The position is clear, but the overall response would benefit from more sophisticated reasoning and a more balanced exploration of the topic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use some cohesive devices such as 'In the first place', 'Furthermore', and 'On the other hand' to signal transitions. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly unnatural. Additionally, the flow between sentences within paragraphs is occasionally disjointed, particularly in the second paragraph. The referencing is generally clear, but the overall progression of ideas could be smoother. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each sentence logically follows the previous one will help improve your score in this area.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your meaning clearly. However, the range is somewhat limited and repetitive. You rely on basic terms like 'important', 'house', and 'money'. There are also some instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'survive in a rental house' and 'pressurized them to leave'. To improve, you should aim to use more precise vocabulary and collocations. For example, instead of 'damage of anything', you could use 'wear and tear'. Expanding your vocabulary to include more academic or topic-specific terms will help you achieve a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'it is important to owning'), incorrect verb forms (e.g., 'rather then pay'), and awkward sentence construction (e.g., 'It is seen as in several countries'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with capitalization after commas. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to affect the overall quality of the writing. Focusing on basic grammatical accuracy and proofreading for common errors will be essential for improvement.
