Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 156 words. Consequently, the task is only partially addressed. The essay introduces the topic but fails to develop the arguments regarding why home ownership is important or provide a clear, balanced discussion on whether it is a positive or negative situation. The response is incomplete, ending abruptly mid-sentence. Due to the significant under-length and the lack of development in the arguments, the response cannot be considered a full attempt at the task.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay attempts to use paragraphing and some cohesive devices such as 'To begin with' and 'Moreover'. However, the logical progression is severely hampered by the incomplete nature of the text. The introduction is somewhat repetitive and confusing, and the transition between ideas is mechanical. Because the essay ends abruptly, there is no conclusion or coherent structure to the argument. Referencing is occasionally unclear, and the overall flow is disrupted by the lack of completion.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. Phrases like 'earn more and more capitals' and 'fruit full life' are unnatural and demonstrate a lack of control over collocations. There are also errors in word choice, such as 'territory' used in place of 'countries' or 'regions'. While the student attempts to use some academic vocabulary, the range is insufficient to express complex ideas effectively. The vocabulary is generally basic and occasionally imprecise, which limits the clarity of the message.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The grammatical range is limited, relying mostly on simple sentence structures. There are frequent errors in grammar, including subject-verb agreement ('other contends'), article usage ('renting apartment'), and pluralization ('theirs expenses'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary spaces before commas. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of errors is high, and the lack of complex sentence structures prevents the demonstration of higher-level grammatical control.
