Student answer (Band 5.5)
Nowadays the residential area is significantly increasing day by day. However a section of society deems that buying own home is more beneficial as compared to those people who says renting is very crucial for individuals as they don't have to pay more tax. This essay will discuss both why it is positive growth and reason for my inclination will also be highlighted while concluding.
To start with, there are various reasons why owning a home is good. The first and foremost reason is that, having a own home can secure so many things such as; individuals do not have to look for other renting apartment and improve safety of the family member. Another prominent reason is that, it not only improves the quality life of a person but also good for children, thus their grandparents can easily focus on them without worrying about to find a baby seater. Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for the importance of home ownership and an opinion on whether this is positive or negative. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the argument regarding 'safety' and 'grandparents' is unclear and lacks logical depth. The position is stated, but the reasoning is often repetitive or tangential, such as the focus on gardening, which does not strongly support the core argument about the importance of home ownership. To reach a higher band, you should provide more substantial, logical arguments that directly address the socio-economic implications of owning versus renting.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is often disjointed. While you use some cohesive devices like 'To start with' and 'Moving ahead', they are sometimes used mechanically or inappropriately. The referencing is occasionally unclear; for example, the transition between the benefits of home ownership and the mention of 'grandparents' lacks a logical link. Furthermore, the concluding paragraph introduces new, slightly confusing ideas rather than synthesising the main points effectively. Improving the logical flow between sentences and ensuring each paragraph has a clear, singular focus would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. There are several instances of awkward phrasing and word-choice errors, such as 'improve the quality life' (should be 'quality of life') and 'baby seater' (should be 'babysitter'). You rely on basic vocabulary and struggle with collocations. To improve, focus on learning topic-specific vocabulary related to housing and economics, and pay closer attention to word forms and standard English collocations to ensure your meaning is conveyed more naturally and accurately.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'most of the society have'), article usage (e.g., 'having a own home'), and tense inconsistencies (e.g., 'they can grown plants'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the misuse of semicolons and commas. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors prevents the text from reaching a higher band. You should focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy and mastering the use of articles and verb forms.
