IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 5.5)
One of the most conspicuous trends in today's world is colossal upsurge in number of people believing that in some part of the world person should have own house rather than lease. There is a widespread worry that it will only lead to myriads of concerns in one's life.
There are number of arguments in favor of my stance the most important is some are in view that we should have our permanent address since accommodation are very expensive in few parts of the globe. As long as for long term plans it is very good decision if things are done in planned way in order to waste huge amount on rents and agreements, for example if person wants to stay permanent in location with good planning going to save huge amounts that directly going to save interests for home loan which as per my views is best way to save money and leads to good savings. Hence can stay without any conditions.
Moving to my alternative view, Individual is free to do anything for example, In rented people has to follow all proper rules and regulations of the owner failing to do results in huge penalties apart from rent we need to pay all maintenance parts too which is totally a waste if anything does not go as per our wishes. Pupil are restricted for timing rules for society its impact is huge if we are working professional following odd shifts.
In conclusion, I firmly believe that am favoring the first formal part of the sentence mentioned my details views with example to satisfy as per my understanding.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for the importance of home ownership and an opinion on whether this is positive or negative. However, the development is inconsistent. While the reasons (financial stability and autonomy) are relevant, the explanation is often repetitive and lacks clarity. For instance, the argument regarding 'interests for home loan' is vague and difficult to follow. The position is stated but not fully supported with sophisticated reasoning. To improve, ensure that each paragraph focuses on a single, well-explained idea that directly answers the prompt's specific questions.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the flow of ideas is frequently disrupted by awkward phrasing and a lack of clear cohesive devices. Transitions between sentences are often missing or mechanical, such as 'Moving to my alternative view'. The referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the logical progression of the argument. For example, the conclusion does not clearly summarise the main points but instead refers vaguely to the 'first formal part of the sentence'. Using a wider range of linking words and ensuring clear topic sentences would significantly improve the coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is somewhat limited and occasionally imprecise. While there is an attempt to use more academic language (e.g., 'conspicuous', 'myriads'), these are sometimes used incorrectly or in unnatural collocations, such as 'colossal upsurge in number of people'. There are also issues with word choice, such as using 'Pupil' to refer to adults or tenants. The range is sufficient to convey basic meaning, but the lack of precision and frequent errors in word formation prevent a higher score. Focusing on learning collocations and using words in their correct context will help.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. Issues include missing articles ('in number of people'), subject-verb agreement errors ('accommodation are'), and awkward sentence construction ('as long as for long term plans it is very good decision'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with several run-on sentences and missing commas. To reach a higher band, you need to focus on basic sentence construction, ensuring that subjects and verbs agree and that articles are used correctly before nouns.
