Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for home ownership and the evaluation of whether this is positive or negative. However, the development of ideas is inconsistent. While the reasons for ownership (financial security and avoiding rent) are mentioned, the explanation is often unclear or illogical, such as the claim about 'taking goods from state on interest'. The discussion of the negative aspects is also somewhat underdeveloped and confusing, particularly the point about 'double expenses' when moving. The position is stated in the introduction but lacks depth in the body paragraphs, leading to a response that is relevant but lacks sufficient clarity and logical support.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which is a positive feature. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate, such as 'Another striking' or 'To justify'. The progression of ideas is frequently hindered by awkward phrasing and a lack of clear logical links between sentences. Referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the argument. While there is an attempt at an introduction and conclusion, the internal structure of the body paragraphs is disjointed, which limits the overall coherence of the essay.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary range is limited and often repetitive. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'forthcoming fragment' instead of 'following paragraphs', 'business mans' instead of 'businessmen', and 'highly burden' instead of 'a heavy burden'. These errors occasionally impede communication, as the reader has to guess the intended meaning. The student attempts to use more formal language, but the lack of precision in word usage prevents the essay from achieving a higher band score. More attention to basic word forms and collocations is required.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but the accuracy is low. There are frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('owning a home is a represent'), article misuse ('in few countries'), and sentence fragments ('As result, some people...'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with many sentences ending abruptly or lacking proper structure. While the meaning is generally discernible, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar and sentence construction significantly impacts the overall quality of the writing.
