Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response is significantly under the 250-word minimum requirement, which severely limits the development of ideas. While the prompt asks for reasons why home ownership is important and whether it is a positive or negative situation, the response only touches upon the cultural importance in specific countries. It fails to address the second part of the prompt regarding whether this is a positive or negative situation. Due to the extreme brevity and failure to address all parts of the task, the response is underdeveloped and incomplete.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The response lacks a clear structure or logical progression. There is no introduction, body, or conclusion. The sentences are disjointed, and there is a lack of cohesive devices to link ideas together. The paragraphing is non-existent, and the flow of ideas is interrupted by grammatical errors and a lack of transition between the general statement and the specific examples provided. The overall arrangement is not coherent enough to support a higher score.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.5
The vocabulary is basic and repetitive. Phrases like 'work very hard' and 'success status' are simplistic. There are errors in word choice, such as 'many peoples believes' (should be 'many people believe') and 'eventually not just other people's' (which is used incorrectly in context). The range of vocabulary is limited and does not demonstrate the flexibility required for higher bands. The student struggles to express complex ideas using precise terminology.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('many peoples believes'), pronoun misuse ('get a house for his family'), and tense inconsistencies. There is a lack of complex sentence structures; the writing relies on simple, often fragmented sentences. Punctuation is also inconsistent, such as the lack of capitalization at the start of sentences and misuse of apostrophes. These errors are pervasive throughout the short text.
