Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for the importance of home ownership and an opinion on whether it is positive or negative. However, the development is inconsistent. While the reasons (social status, financial security) are touched upon, the explanation is often unclear, such as the vague reference to 'convinient over hard work'. The opinion is also somewhat muddled; the introduction mentions 'mitigating' the issue, but the body paragraphs do not clearly argue whether the trend is positive or negative, instead focusing on how to manage the financial burden. To improve, ensure each paragraph directly supports your stance with clear, logical arguments.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical progression is frequently interrupted by unclear transitions and confusing sentence structures. For instance, the transition 'Moving further, in modern ear peer pressure...' does not effectively link to the previous point about bank rebates. Cohesive devices are used, but they are often mechanical or misused, such as 'Addressing these issues has multifaceted approach' which lacks a determiner. The referencing is sometimes ambiguous, making it difficult for the reader to follow the flow of ideas. More careful use of linking words and clearer topic sentences would improve the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. There are several instances of awkward collocations and word choice errors, such as 'buying house has arise liability' and 'societicial level'. The phrase 'big amount of chunk' is informal and imprecise. While the student attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'rebate' and 'sustainable', the overall control is limited. To reach a higher band, focus on using more natural collocations and ensuring that words are used in the correct grammatical context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include missing articles ('having own house', 'in modern ear'), subject-verb agreement errors ('buying house has arise'), and incorrect word forms ('educated their citizens' instead of 'educate'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of commas. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for articles and verb tenses would be beneficial.
