Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which significantly impacts the development of ideas. While you address both parts of the prompt—reasons for home ownership and your opinion on whether it is positive or negative—the arguments are underdeveloped and repetitive. For instance, the point about renting out rooms is mentioned in both body paragraphs, which limits the depth of your analysis. To improve, you need to expand on your points with specific examples or logical consequences and ensure the essay meets the length requirement to allow for a full exploration of the topic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay has a basic structure with an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, the progression of ideas is often disjointed. While you use some cohesive devices like 'On the one hand' and 'In conclusion', the internal flow within paragraphs is weak. Some sentences are repetitive, such as the repeated mention of renting out rooms. Additionally, the referencing is sometimes unclear, for example, 'coming generations of their' is grammatically incomplete and confusing. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each paragraph focuses on a distinct, well-developed idea would enhance the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for basic communication but lacks the range and precision required for a higher band. You rely on simple, repetitive phrasing such as 'important', 'house', and 'home'. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'handsome income' (which is slightly informal) and 'rent will be rise' (incorrect verb form). To improve, you should aim to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary related to economics and housing, and focus on using words in their correct collocations to express your ideas more naturally and precisely.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are issues with subject-verb agreement ('home owners considered', 'rent will be rise'), article usage ('depending on rental house'), and sentence structure. Many sentences are simple or contain structural errors, such as 'owning a home is dream of some people'. There is a lack of complex sentence structures, which limits your ability to demonstrate grammatical range. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, verb tenses, and the correct use of articles before attempting more complex grammatical forms.
