Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 177 words. Consequently, the development of ideas is severely limited. While you attempt to address both parts of the prompt—explaining why home ownership is important and discussing whether it is positive or negative—the arguments are underdeveloped and lack sufficient supporting detail. The points regarding 'safety' and 'reputation' are mentioned but not expanded upon, and the discussion on the financial burden of loans is superficial. To improve, you must expand your arguments with specific examples, logical explanations, and a more thorough exploration of the implications of your points to meet the length requirement and provide a more comprehensive response.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay shows some attempt at paragraphing, but the structure is disjointed. The use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate, such as the awkward transition 'First and predominant is' and the misuse of 'On the other hand' to introduce a point that is not a contrast. The logical progression of ideas is frequently interrupted by grammatical errors and unclear referencing, making the flow difficult to follow. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'in contrast') and ensure that each paragraph focuses on a single, well-developed idea that connects clearly to the next.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.5
The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive, with frequent spelling errors that occasionally impede understanding, such as 'safty' (safety), 'repotation' (reputation), 'persnality' (personality), 'sociaty' (society), 'expencieve' (expensive), and 'affortable' (affordable). You rely on basic vocabulary and struggle to use more precise or academic terminology. To improve, you should focus on learning the correct spelling of common words and expanding your range of vocabulary related to housing, finance, and social status. Using more precise collocations will help you convey your ideas more effectively and professionally.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that often obscure meaning. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'which people has their own house, they has'), article usage, and sentence structure. Many sentences are fragmented or run-on, and the lack of control over basic grammar makes the writing difficult to read. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically subject-verb agreement and the correct use of prepositions and articles. Practicing the construction of complex sentences will also help you move beyond simple, error-prone structures.
