Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt, identifying reasons for home ownership and expressing a clear opinion. However, the essay is significantly under the 250-word minimum requirement, which limits the depth of development. While the ideas regarding financial security and personal freedom are relevant, they are presented in a somewhat list-like fashion rather than being fully extended with detailed examples or logical analysis. The position is clear, but the lack of length prevents a more comprehensive exploration of the topic, resulting in an underdeveloped response that fails to meet the basic task requirements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical progression is often hindered by awkward phrasing and a lack of sophisticated cohesive devices. Transitions between ideas are basic, such as 'In the commence' and 'Secondly'. The use of referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the flow of arguments. While there is an attempt to structure the response, the mechanical nature of the linking words and the disjointed sentence structure prevent the essay from achieving a higher level of coherence. More varied and precise cohesive devices are needed to connect ideas more fluidly.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and often repetitive, relying on basic terms like 'house', 'money', and 'rent'. There are several instances of inaccurate word choice and non-standard collocations, such as 'security field' instead of 'security system' and 'make out from the house' instead of 'evict'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to express complex ideas with precision. To improve, you should focus on learning topic-specific collocations related to finance and housing, and work on using more academic synonyms to replace basic, repetitive language throughout your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a high frequency of grammatical errors, including issues with subject-verb agreement ('somebody are living'), article usage, and sentence fragments. The range of structures is limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences with occasional attempts at complex ones that are often grammatically flawed. Punctuation is also inconsistent, which occasionally impedes the clarity of the message. To reach a higher band, you must focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring subject-verb agreement, and reducing the frequency of errors that currently distract from the content of your arguments.
