Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for the importance of home ownership and an opinion on whether this is positive or negative. However, the development of ideas is limited. While you mention financial security and personal freedom, the explanations are brief and lack depth. The argument regarding the 'positive' or 'negative' nature of the situation is somewhat inconsistent, as you present it as positive initially but then highlight significant negative aspects for immigrants and those with lower incomes. To improve, ensure your position is clearly stated in the introduction and maintained consistently throughout the essay, with each paragraph providing a well-supported, distinct point.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the logical flow is often disrupted by sentence-level errors and a lack of clear cohesive devices. Transitions between ideas are often missing or mechanical (e.g., 'the main effect is', 'in additionally'). The referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult to follow the progression of your argument. For example, the transition from discussing home ownership to renting is abrupt. To improve, use a wider variety of linking words such as 'furthermore', 'consequently', or 'on the other hand' to connect your ideas more fluidly and ensure each paragraph has a clear topic sentence.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally basic and repetitive. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'hfull authority' (full authority), 'any thing' (anything), and 'easy serving in new life' (adjusting to a new life). While you attempt to use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'immigrate' and 'financial', the range is limited, and the errors occasionally impede the reader's understanding. To reach a higher band, focus on learning collocations related to housing and finance, and ensure you use words in their correct grammatical form.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a high frequency of grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues (e.g., 'they gives help'), incorrect article usage, and fragmented sentence structures. There is a limited range of complex sentence structures, and most attempts at them contain errors. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with spaces placed before commas. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically ensuring that every sentence has a clear subject and verb. Reviewing the use of articles and pluralization will also significantly improve the clarity of your writing.
