IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 5.0)
In some countries, people believe that owning a home is important than renting one. This is because having a house gives people security and stability. In my opinion, this is mostly positive situatuon.
There are many several reasons why people prefer to own their house. First, owning a house provide long term security. People do not worry about incresing rent or land owner asking to people leave home any time. Second, house is valuable investment, their value is incresing all time. people have freedom to take own decision about their home changing external or interior, if they want some changes. People do not often change they home of rent, and get stability about their children education. If, people have own home they get respect from society and relatives. When, people suffering some financial problem then they take some morgrage loan from bank on their home.
In my view, owning house is positive situation . Because people have stbility and security. They can have pride to buying house, and get emotional setisfaction. People also have some tax benifits , when they take loan for buying house

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 185 words. This significantly impacts the development of ideas, as the arguments remain superficial and lack sufficient elaboration or supporting examples. While you address both parts of the prompt—explaining why home ownership is important and expressing an opinion—the lack of depth prevents a higher score. To improve, you must expand on your points by providing concrete examples or deeper analysis, ensuring each paragraph is fully developed to meet the length requirement.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, and there is a basic attempt at logical progression. However, the use of cohesive devices is mechanical and sometimes inaccurate, such as the repetitive use of 'First' and 'Second' without varied transition words. Referencing is occasionally unclear, and the flow between sentences is somewhat disjointed. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and phrases to connect ideas more fluidly, and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that guides the reader through your argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, with frequent spelling errors such as 'incresing', 'stbility', 'setisfaction', and 'benifits'. The range of vocabulary is basic, and there is little attempt to use less common or more sophisticated lexical items. The word choice is often imprecise, such as 'land owner' instead of 'landlord' or 'mortgage loan' being used in a slightly awkward context. To improve, focus on learning collocations and expanding your range of topic-specific vocabulary, while also paying closer attention to spelling accuracy.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay relies heavily on simple sentence structures, and there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Common issues include missing articles ('owning a house', 'get respect from society'), subject-verb agreement errors ('owning a house provide'), and incorrect word forms ('important than renting' instead of 'more important than renting'). While the meaning is generally understandable, these persistent errors interfere with the overall quality of the writing. To improve, practice using a wider variety of complex sentence structures and proofread carefully to correct basic errors in articles and verb forms.
