Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for the importance of home ownership and an opinion on whether this is positive or negative. However, the development is limited. The reasons provided (lack of stability, landlord regulations) are relevant but explained in a simplistic manner. The discussion on whether it is a positive or negative situation is confusing; the essay labels the 'dark side' of renting as a negative, but fails to clearly argue whether the societal focus on ownership itself is positive or negative. The conclusion is repetitive and does not synthesize the arguments effectively. To improve, ensure each paragraph has a clear topic sentence and more thorough supporting evidence.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. While some cohesive devices are used (e.g., 'To commence with', 'For instance', 'In conclusion'), they are sometimes used incorrectly or mechanically. For example, the transition 'There are certain dark side of the notion' is abrupt and does not logically connect to the previous paragraph. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the use of 'the notion' without a clear antecedent. The flow between ideas is disjointed, making it difficult for the reader to follow the argument's development. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each paragraph focuses on a single, well-developed idea would enhance coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and often repetitive. Phrases like 'sense of achievement', 'significant', and 'dark side' are used, but the range is insufficient for a higher band. There are several word-choice errors and awkward collocations, such as 'in contemporary era' (should be 'in the contemporary era') and 'living in the control of owner' (should be 'under the control of a landlord'). Some phrasing is unnatural, such as 'the notion that renting home do not give the sense of stability'. To reach a higher band, you should incorporate more precise vocabulary related to housing, finance, and social trends, and focus on correct collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay relies heavily on simple sentence structures. While there are attempts at complex sentences, they are frequently marred by grammatical errors. Common issues include missing articles ('owning home' instead of 'owning a home'), subject-verb agreement errors ('renting home do not give'), and incorrect preposition usage. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary spaces before periods. The frequency of these errors is high enough to cause some difficulty for the reader. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically article usage and verb agreement, before attempting more complex structures.
