Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.5
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 195 words. This significantly impacts the development of ideas, which remain superficial and under-developed. While you attempt to address both parts of the prompt—the reasons for home ownership and your opinion on whether it is positive—the arguments are fragmented and lack sufficient explanation or supporting examples. The conclusion is incomplete, cutting off mid-sentence, which further prevents a clear, fully developed position. To improve, you must expand your points with specific examples and ensure you reach the required length to allow for a comprehensive discussion of the topic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay lacks a clear logical structure. Paragraphing is present but ineffective, as the ideas within the paragraphs are disjointed and difficult to follow. Cohesive devices are either missing or used incorrectly, such as 'commencing with the first positive thought', which feels unnatural. The progression of ideas is hindered by frequent grammatical errors and incomplete thoughts, making it hard for the reader to track your argument. To improve, focus on using transition words like 'furthermore', 'consequently', or 'in contrast' to link your sentences and ensure each paragraph has a clear topic sentence followed by supporting details.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
Your vocabulary is quite limited and often repetitive. You rely on basic terms like 'house', 'people', and 'good/bad' concepts, which restricts your ability to express complex ideas. There are several instances of word-choice errors and awkward phrasing, such as 'it contain security' instead of 'it provides security' and 'making burden for loans' instead of 'incurring debt'. To reach a higher band, you should aim to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary and collocations related to housing, finance, and social trends. Expanding your range of synonyms will help you avoid repetition and convey your points with greater clarity.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'purchasing a property is consider'), article usage, and sentence structure. Many sentences are fragmented or run-on, making the text difficult to parse. You rely almost exclusively on simple sentence structures, with very few attempts at complex sentences, and those that are attempted are often grammatically incorrect. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically subject-verb agreement and the correct use of prepositions, before attempting more complex grammatical structures.
