Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for home ownership and the opinion on whether it is a positive or negative trend. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. While you mention the ability to decorate and financial benefits, the arguments lack depth and specific examples. The conclusion is brief and does not fully summarise the main points discussed. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your arguments with more detailed explanations and ensure your position is clearly stated and maintained throughout the essay.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is sometimes disjointed. You use some cohesive devices like 'moreover', 'furthermore', and 'in addition', but they are occasionally used mechanically or inappropriately. The referencing is sometimes unclear, and the transition between ideas could be smoother. Paragraphing is present, but the structure within the paragraphs lacks a logical flow. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear topic sentence would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. You rely on basic terms such as 'good', 'difficulties', and 'things'. There are several word-choice errors, such as 'decor their houses' (should be 'decorate') and 'manufacture their home' (should be 'customise' or 'design'). Some collocations are unnatural, such as 'productive trend'. To improve, you should focus on using more precise vocabulary and learning common collocations related to housing and lifestyle topics.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('there is provided a less space'), article usage ('in rent houses'), and punctuation errors (spaces before commas). There are also spelling errors like 'an d' and 'ti'. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar and sentence construction prevents a higher score. Focus on proofreading for basic errors and practising complex sentence structures.
