In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?

Student answer (Band 5.0)

In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people . Have a home is very significant in our live. some people prefer their own home while other like ranting roof .

In one hand having a home means we are safe from strom ,s rain ,fair etc but some people think that have our home we can do whatever we want to do .like in our home we can make noise we can play in our home with noises .we can can cook anywhere .but if we are in another house like in a rent house they have their rule and regulations so we need to flow their rule and regulations as well as . We can use their like however we want .

In other hand if we have our own home we can invite our guest as well as we can also invite our guests . But as compared to our own We don't have that freedom so having a own home is benefits . So having our own home is relaxing so don't need to take stress like we have to pay fee in next year as well as .

For me I prefer my own home . having our own home means we can enjoy everything think however whatever we want .as well as .I like personal home

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which significantly impacts the development of ideas. While the essay addresses both parts of the prompt—explaining why home ownership is important and expressing an opinion—the arguments are underdeveloped and repetitive. The reasons provided, such as freedom from rules and the ability to host guests, are mentioned but not explored with sufficient depth or supporting examples. The position is clear, but the lack of length prevents a full development of the topic, leading to a score that reflects the partial coverage of the task requirements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. The use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate, such as the repetitive use of 'as well as' and 'in other hand'. The transition between ideas is frequently abrupt, and the referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the flow of the argument. While there is an attempt to structure the essay, the lack of sophisticated linking words and the disjointed nature of the sentences hinder the overall coherence of the piece.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, which restricts the ability to convey ideas with precision. There are frequent errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'ranting roof' instead of 'renting', 'strom' for 'storm', and 'flow' instead of 'follow'. The range of vocabulary is basic, and the student struggles to use less common items effectively. To improve, the student needs to focus on learning collocations and expanding their range of academic vocabulary to express complex ideas more naturally and accurately.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay relies heavily on simple sentence structures, and there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'Have a home is very significant'), missing articles, and incorrect word order. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with several run-on sentences and misused commas. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors and the lack of complex structures limit the score. The student should focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common grammatical slips.
