IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 5.0)
In most of the countries, owning home is beneficial than renting a house for people. I thought that it is a positive situation. Below, I will give the reasons to support my answer.
Firstly, it is the positive condition for some people to have their own house. It gave the people a satisfaction. People have no need to worry about their future. If a person has his own house, he can upgrade it make him better than past. He devised new things in it to make it cool.
Own house excluded the people from the anxiety to pay rent of the house. If a person did not have his own house, he faces many difficulties in life. Firstly, he always worried about his wife and people if he has.
But if a people is going another city or a country for a job or study, there is no need to buy the house, he can manage it to stay at rent. But if a person has a family like wife, children or parents, he must buy his own house to gave his family a better life style and also gave his children better education.
According to my research, there is no disadvantage of having own house. If a person live on a rent and paying rent of the house, instead of paying rent he can bought house on installments.
To sum up, owning house is more important and beneficial for the people than renting a house. In my experience, owning house did not has any loss but also has the conditions.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: why home ownership is important and whether it is a positive or negative situation. However, the development of ideas is limited. The arguments regarding 'satisfaction' and 'anxiety' are repetitive and lack depth. The reasoning is somewhat simplistic, and the claim that there are 'no disadvantages' to owning a home is an over-generalisation that weakens the argument. To reach a higher band, you should provide more nuanced examples, such as the financial stability of equity versus the flexibility of renting, rather than relying on broad, unsupported statements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical progression within them is often disjointed. While transition words like 'Firstly' and 'To sum up' are used, they are sometimes applied mechanically or incorrectly. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the sentence 'he always worried about his wife and people if he has,' where the meaning is ambiguous. The flow between sentences is often interrupted by grammatical errors, which makes the overall structure feel somewhat fragmented rather than cohesive.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. You frequently use basic terms like 'house', 'people', and 'good/better'. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'upgrade it make him better than past' and 'devised new things in it to make it cool'. These choices are informal and imprecise. To improve, you need to incorporate a wider range of topic-specific vocabulary related to housing, finance, and social stability, and work on using words in their correct collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede clarity. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement ('a people is going', 'owning house did not has'), article usage ('owning home', 'live on a rent'), and tense consistency ('he can bought house'). While there is an attempt to use complex structures, they are often faulty, leading to awkward phrasing. The majority of sentences contain errors, which prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focus on mastering basic sentence construction and verb forms before attempting more complex structures.
