IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 5.5)
In recent years In some nations owning the house is more significant than renting for individuals becoming increasingly common. This essay will discuss the reason behind this case and why i believe that it is a positive situaion.
One major reason is that People who own the house have no tension of owner because they have full freedom to each create and every corner of a home according their own requirements and likes. This means that people who own a home have no involvement and disturbance of owners who can ask for leave anytime, increase rent suddenly and not freedom to change atleast small things, however in own home a person have full stability and freedom to do whatever they wants to do. For example , In India Gujarat state people think that having your own house atleast one small is important because it provides you a stability and some extent satisfaction in your life. Therefore, for gujarati people buying house is first priority because it is not just a property it is investment of emotions.
Another important aspect is that It is a positive situation because It is an investment, not an expense. In other words, people who have homeownership have a financial security for their family, because they build wealth for their family safe future. For instance, in many big cities people usually buying a property for an investment and give it to the people for renting who shift in the city for short time of period, it means they create money by giving property on the rent. As a result it provides them stability and freedom with money and it is a beneficial for family for fianincially safe future.
In conclusion, although owning house is valuable rathar than renting is becoming increasingly common in some countries because all individuals need freedom to make own home without any tension of owner interuption, it can have a significant effects on individuals and society. From my perspective it is a positive situation because owning a property provides a person security, stability and chance to create wealth with proper investement.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for the importance of homeownership and the writer's opinion on whether this is positive. The position is clear throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat repetitive, particularly regarding 'freedom' and 'stability'. While the example from Gujarat is relevant, the explanation of financial security in the second body paragraph could be more nuanced to reach a higher band. The response covers all requirements, but the depth of analysis is limited by the repetitive nature of the arguments provided.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central topic. Cohesive devices such as 'One major reason', 'Another important aspect', and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader. However, the flow is occasionally hindered by awkward phrasing and repetitive sentence structures. Referencing is generally clear, but some transitions feel mechanical. The paragraphing is appropriate, and there is a clear progression of ideas from the reasons for homeownership to the evaluation of its positive nature.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks sophistication. There are several instances of imprecise word choice, such as 'no tension of owner' and 'not freedom to change'. Spelling errors like 'situaion', 'fianincially', and 'interuption' occur, though they do not impede communication. The range of vocabulary is sufficient to express the main ideas, but the writer relies on basic terms and struggles with collocations, such as 'create money' instead of 'generate income' or 'build equity'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('owning the house'), subject-verb agreement ('a person have'), and sentence fragments or run-on sentences. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary commas and capitalization errors. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. More attention to sentence construction and proofreading for basic errors is required.
