IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 5.5)
Nowadays, some individuals believe that ownership of property is crucial for everyone rather than living in a rented property. Moreover, the house possessing provides several benefits for people such as a long term assets and free from rental payments. This essay will discuss the positive aspects and provide my opinion on why I support this.
To commence, one of the major advantages is that people can focus on their goal and spend their income into different domains-. In other words, some residents face several difficulties to find suitable accommodation into their budget but when people can own their house so they can invest their saving into other sources such as car, shares etc. In 2025, Times of India news stated that 60% of company employees are more happier who own their property rather than renting one. Thus it can be beneficial for individuals and society in the long term.
Furthermore, another reason is why I support this is that there is no restriction in own house rather than rent because the rent has several issues such as tenant can not upgrade their house by choice and any damage can cost in house security. For example, if a person want to build another floor to their house so they can do that but renting tenants can't allowed for these activities.
In conclusion, the comfortability and tension free mind from rent and without any permission to upgrade in house can possible when people have the ownership of the house. Although, if they lived in rented property so they face several difficulties such as rent and damage bearing in their security amount.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for the importance of home ownership and the writer's opinion on whether it is a positive or negative situation. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. While you mention financial benefits and freedom of modification, the arguments lack depth and specific examples. The reference to a 'Times of India' news report is a good attempt at support, but the reasoning remains repetitive. To improve, ensure that each paragraph fully explores the 'why' behind your claims rather than simply stating them. The position is clear, but the overall argument would benefit from more sophisticated analysis of the social or economic implications.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear introduction and conclusion. You use some cohesive devices like 'To commence,' 'Furthermore,' and 'In conclusion' to signal the structure. However, the flow within paragraphs is sometimes hindered by awkward phrasing and mechanical transitions. For instance, the sentence 'In other words, some residents face several difficulties...' does not clearly connect to the previous point about investing income. Additionally, the use of referencing is occasionally unclear, making the progression of ideas feel slightly disjointed. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring each sentence builds logically on the last will enhance the coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and range required for a higher band. You use basic terms like 'house possessing' (which is non-standard) and 'comfortability' (which is less natural than 'comfort'). There are also some collocation errors, such as 'damage bearing in their security amount.' While you attempt to use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'accommodation' and 'invest,' the overall range is limited. To reach a higher band, focus on using more sophisticated collocations and avoiding repetitive or slightly inaccurate word choices. Expanding your vocabulary to include more academic synonyms will help convey your ideas more effectively.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('60% of company employees are more happier'), incorrect preposition usage, and awkward phrasing ('renting tenants can't allowed for these activities'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some unnecessary hyphens and missing commas. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like tense consistency and article usage to improve your accuracy.
