IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 5.5)
In few nations owned a home rather than renting one is very necessary for individuals. However, i believe it is completely positive development
On the one hand , there are several reasons for owning a home in few nations that I explained below. Firstly, some countries is already expensive so renting home on that country is could be expensive because there rent is too much costly and if unfortunately people not able to pay rent then the owner can remove them from their home . Secondly, there are some restrictions in rented house such as no loud noise, no entry after 10.00pm and many other restrictions. So, it is better to be owning a home for example, a student will rent a house and after they refused to pay the rent for some personal reasons they did not get work or a job other many reasons so the owner first gives them warning . After that they did not pay rent after warning so the owner may kick out from there house.
On the other hand , there are also many merits of this statement. Firstly, a person who owns a home they did not have a stress to pay the rent of house. They lives freely in there house. Secondly, they did not have any restrictions such as loud noise, no entry after specific time they do everything in there home. If they have one extra room they can give that room on rent and earn money so it helps them to boost their financial conditions.
To conclude, there are several reasons of this phenomenon and also many merits that cannot be neglected.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt, identifying reasons for home ownership and expressing a clear opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat repetitive and lacks depth. For instance, the explanation of why renting is difficult focuses heavily on the threat of eviction, which is a valid point but could have been balanced with broader economic or social factors. The position is clear, but the supporting arguments are simplistic and lack the sophistication required for higher bands. The conclusion is also very brief and does not effectively summarise the main points discussed in the body paragraphs.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical and sometimes inaccurate. Phrases like 'On the one hand' and 'On the other hand' are used, but the internal flow within paragraphs is disjointed. For example, the transition between the reasons for renting and the example of a student is abrupt. Additionally, referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the use of 'there' instead of 'their' throughout the text, which disrupts the logical progression of ideas.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. The student relies on basic terms like 'expensive', 'costly', and 'restrictions'. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'remove them from their home' instead of 'evict them', and 'boost their financial conditions' which is slightly unnatural in this context. The range is sufficient to convey basic meaning, but there is little evidence of less common lexical items or an awareness of style and collocation appropriate for an academic essay.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a high frequency of grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement ('some countries is already expensive'), article usage ('renting home'), and word confusion ('there' used instead of 'their'). Sentence structures are mostly simple or contain errors when attempting complexity. For example, 'renting home on that country is could be expensive' is grammatically incoherent. While the meaning is generally discernible, the lack of control over basic structures prevents the essay from reaching a higher band.
