IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 5.0)
In a few nations having your own accommodation is very necessary then living in anyone else building by paying him.
In this essay i will explain why this decision is important for the individuals and what are the advantages of having your own personal accommodation.
Firstly, this case is may be due to the law of that country made by the government that ever citizen should must have their own house to live in and its necessary for everyone to follow this law and this law is made for the benefit of locals of the country and people also prefer having their own home because its not easy leaving the house for anyone where he has born and grew up and made a a lot of memories there. So, that's why most of the major citizen also thought they must have their own house to live in.
According to my point of view this is a positive condition because it has a lot of benefits as this also helps in improving the economy of the whole nation and some people are also financially not much strong to pay their monthly house rent properly and to avoid this problem its necessary for the government to start such a scheme in which government should provide free houses to such citizens that are not financially able to make home by their own which can solve many of the problems of the people who are of low financial levels.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt, but the development is limited. The reasons for the importance of home ownership are somewhat speculative and lack depth, focusing on hypothetical government laws rather than socio-economic factors. The discussion on whether it is positive or negative is present but remains superficial. Furthermore, the essay fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which negatively impacts the overall task achievement score. To improve, you should expand your arguments with specific examples and ensure you meet the length requirement to allow for full development of your ideas.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the flow between ideas is often mechanical. While some cohesive devices like 'Firstly' and 'According to my point of view' are used, they are basic and sometimes used incorrectly. The progression of ideas is occasionally disjointed, particularly in the transition between the reasons for ownership and the government scheme proposal. Paragraphing is present, but the internal structure of the paragraphs lacks logical cohesion, making it difficult for the reader to follow the argument's development. More varied linking words and better sentence-to-sentence connection are needed.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, often relying on basic phrasing such as 'having your own accommodation' and 'not much strong'. There are instances of awkward word choices, such as 'major citizen' and 'not financially able to make home'. The range is insufficient to express complex ideas with precision. To reach a higher band, you should focus on learning collocations related to housing and finance, and attempt to use more academic vocabulary to replace simple, everyday terms. Expanding your range will help you convey your points more effectively.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'is may be due to', 'ever citizen should must', and 'not financially able to make home by their own'. There is a lack of complex sentence structures, and the control over basic grammar, such as subject-verb agreement and article usage, is inconsistent. Punctuation is also problematic, with run-on sentences that lack proper clause separation. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like missing articles and incorrect verb forms.
