Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for the importance of home ownership and an evaluation of whether this is positive or negative. However, the development of ideas is inconsistent. While the reasons for ownership (security, social status, family tradition) are relevant, the discussion on the 'positive or negative' aspect is somewhat muddled. The argument lacks depth, particularly in the second body paragraph where the transition between the benefits and the drawbacks of ownership is abrupt. The conclusion attempts to summarize, but the position remains slightly ambiguous due to the lack of a clear, sustained argument throughout the essay.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical progression is often hindered by awkward phrasing and mechanical transitions. While cohesive devices like 'One of the most significant reason' and 'In conclusion' are used, they are sometimes applied incorrectly or in a repetitive manner. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the second paragraph where the link between 'wedding ceremony' and 'home ownership' is not fully explained, making the argument difficult to follow. Paragraphing is present, but the internal structure of the paragraphs lacks the necessary flow to guide the reader effectively.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and often imprecise. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'every people' instead of 'everyone' or 'people', and 'prone and cone' instead of 'pros and cons'. The phrase 'over the moon' is used incorrectly in this context, as it refers to being extremely happy rather than feeling secure or comfortable. While the student attempts to use some topic-specific vocabulary, the lack of control over word forms and collocations frequently impedes the clarity of the message.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a high frequency of grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('owning home provide', 'It have some'), missing articles ('owning home', 'in India country'), and incorrect sentence structures. There is a limited range of complex structures, and those that are attempted often contain errors that affect readability. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. While the meaning is generally discernible, the persistent errors in basic grammar and syntax significantly detract from the overall quality of the writing.
