Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt, identifying reasons for home ownership and expressing a clear preference for it. However, the development of ideas is limited. The arguments regarding financial benefits and the difficulties of renting are repetitive and lack depth. For instance, the point about renting to visitors is mentioned but not clearly explained or linked to the broader social context. The ideas are often presented in a fragmented way, which prevents a fully developed argument. To improve, you should focus on expanding each point with specific examples or logical reasoning rather than repeating the same general statements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is divided into paragraphs, which helps the overall structure. However, the logical progression of ideas is frequently interrupted by unclear transitions and repetitive sentence structures. While you use some linking words like 'secondly' and 'thirdly', they are often used incorrectly or do not effectively connect the ideas within the paragraphs. The referencing is also problematic; for example, the use of 'he' to refer to abstract concepts or groups of people makes the text difficult to follow. Improving the use of cohesive devices and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus would significantly enhance the flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive, relying on basic terms like 'good', 'big', and 'money'. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'making a own home' instead of 'purchasing a property' or 'buying money' instead of 'generating income'. The lack of variety in vocabulary makes it difficult to express complex ideas clearly. To reach a higher band, you should work on learning collocations related to housing and finance, and try to use more precise terminology to convey your meaning accurately.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement ('most people making a own home', 'some people is does not traveling'), article usage, and sentence structure. Many sentences are fragmented or run-on, making the text difficult to parse. There is very little evidence of complex sentence structures, and the ones attempted are usually inaccurate. Focusing on basic sentence construction, specifically ensuring that every sentence has a clear subject and a correctly conjugated verb, is essential for improvement.
