In some countries, people believe that owning a home is much more important than renting one. This is a common situation in many societies. There are several reasons for this preference, and I believe that it is generally a positive development.

One main reason why people prefer to own a house is financial security. When people buy a property, they can consider it as a long-term investment. House prices may increase over time, so owners can make a profit if they decide to sell their property in the future. In contrast, people who rent a house have to pay money every month but they do not own the property. Therefore, many people feel that buying a home is a better use of their money.

Another reason is that owning a home can provide a sense of stability and security. People who own their house do not have to worry about landlords increasing the rent or asking them to leave. They can also decorate or change their home according to their own preferences. In addition, owning a house is often considered a sign of success in some cultures, and parents may want to leave property for their children.

In my opinion, this situation is mostly positive. Having a home can give people financial stability and a comfortable place to live. It can also help families feel more secure about their future. However, buying a house can be difficult for young people because property prices are very high in many cities. Some people may take large loans and face financial pressure for many years.

In conclusion, people prefer to own homes because of financial security, stability and cultural values. Although purchasing a house can create financial difficulties, I believe that home ownership is generally a positive situation when people can afford it.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt. You clearly identify reasons for the preference for home ownership, such as financial security and stability, and provide a clear position that this is a positive development. The ideas are well-supported with relevant examples, such as the ability to decorate or the avoidance of rent increases. The conclusion effectively summarizes your stance. To reach a higher band, you could further extend the discussion on the potential negative impacts, such as the 'financial pressure' mentioned in the third paragraph, to provide a more balanced and nuanced exploration of the topic.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph has a central theme, and you use cohesive devices such as 'In contrast', 'Therefore', and 'In addition' to link your points effectively. The paragraphing is appropriate, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. The flow of information is smooth and easy to follow. To improve, ensure that the transition between the benefits and the drawbacks in the third paragraph is slightly more seamless to enhance the overall cohesion of the argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to discuss the topic with precision. Phrases like 'long-term investment', 'financial security', and 'cultural values' are used accurately. While the vocabulary is generally appropriate and natural, it is somewhat functional. To achieve a higher band, try to incorporate more sophisticated or less common collocations and idiomatic expressions. For example, instead of 'make a profit', you could use 'accrue capital gains', and instead of 'very high', you could use 'prohibitively expensive'. The spelling and word choice are accurate throughout the text.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0

The essay displays a good mix of simple and complex sentence structures. You use relative clauses and conditional structures effectively, such as 'When people buy a property, they can consider it as a long-term investment'. The grammar is generally accurate, with only very minor slips. The punctuation is handled well, contributing to the clarity of your writing. To move into the higher band, you could experiment with a wider variety of complex structures, such as passive voice or inverted conditional sentences, to demonstrate greater grammatical flexibility and control.
