Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response is significantly under the 250-word minimum requirement, which severely impacts the development of ideas. While the essay introduces the topic and attempts to address the reasons for home ownership, the discussion is cut off abruptly before the second part of the prompt (whether it is a positive or negative situation) can be fully explored. The ideas presented, such as privacy and flexibility, are relevant but remain underdeveloped due to the lack of length. To improve, you must ensure you provide a full, balanced argument that addresses all parts of the prompt with sufficient supporting detail to meet the word count.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the abrupt ending prevents a logical flow of ideas. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'For instance' and 'As result', but the latter is grammatically incomplete ('As a result'). The progression of ideas is hindered by the incomplete nature of the text. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that connects back to the main argument, leading to a cohesive conclusion.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for basic communication but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. There are several spelling errors, such as 'discus' instead of 'discuss', 'seprate' instead of 'separate', and 'flexiblity' instead of 'flexibility'. The phrasing is often repetitive, and the word choice is somewhat simplistic. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more precise academic vocabulary and ensure your spelling is accurate throughout the essay.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The text contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'renting the house it has considerable concern' (run-on/fragment), 'owning new homes beside renting apartments' (incorrect preposition/structure), and 'there also more tenant living there i basement' (missing articles and pluralization errors). The sentence structures are mostly simple or contain errors when attempting complexity. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, the correct use of articles, and ensuring that your sentences are complete and grammatically sound.
