Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt, identifying reasons for home ownership and discussing the situation as a whole. However, the essay is under the 250-word minimum, which limits the depth of development. The ideas are presented in a list-like fashion rather than being fully explored or supported with detailed examples. The conclusion is incomplete, cutting off mid-sentence, which prevents a clear final position from being established. To improve, you should expand on your points with specific examples or explanations and ensure the essay is of sufficient length to allow for a thorough discussion of the topic.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay uses basic cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'In addition', and 'Moreover'. However, the use of these devices is repetitive and mechanical, particularly the overuse of 'Furthermore' and 'Moreover' to start almost every sentence in the body paragraphs. This creates a disjointed flow rather than a logical progression of ideas. Paragraphing is present, but the final paragraph is incomplete, which disrupts the overall structure. To improve, vary your linking words and focus on creating smoother transitions between sentences to help the reader follow your argument more naturally.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is generally limited and repetitive. Phrases like 'build or construct' and 'based on their dream' are used multiple times, indicating a lack of lexical variety. There are also errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'mostly people's does not want' and 'at one's' (likely meaning 'at once'). The language is functional but lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. To improve, try to use more sophisticated synonyms and focus on correct collocations, such as 'financial burden' instead of 'price' or 'long-term investment' instead of 'paying at one's'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('mostly people's does not want', 'they knows'), missing articles ('roof above their head'), and awkward phrasing ('it take lot of time'). The sentence structures are predominantly simple or repetitive, with few attempts at complex sentences. Punctuation is also inconsistent. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and article usage. Additionally, practice combining simple sentences into more complex structures using relative clauses or subordinating conjunctions to demonstrate a wider grammatical range.
