Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for the importance of home ownership and the writer's opinion on whether it is positive or negative. The ideas are relevant, covering financial security, stability, investment potential, and community connection. However, the development is somewhat superficial. For example, the explanation of 'financial pressure' in the conclusion is left hanging without a full discussion of why this might be a negative aspect. While the position is clear, the arguments could be extended with more depth to reach a higher band. The response is balanced, but the conclusion is incomplete.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, and there is a clear attempt to use cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'Secondly', and 'In conclusion'. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly unnatural, such as 'Moving further ahead'. The referencing is occasionally unclear, and the flow between sentences is sometimes disjointed. Paragraphing is present, but the final paragraph is incomplete, which affects the overall structural integrity of the essay. The progression of ideas is generally logical, but the transitions between points could be smoother.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are frequent spelling errors, such as 'finical' instead of 'financial', 'assest' instead of 'asset', 'evetn' instead of 'event', and 'hose' instead of 'house'. These errors are noticeable and occasionally distract the reader. While the student attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'investment' and 'community', the range is limited, and the repetition of basic words like 'house' and 'money' suggests a need for a broader lexical repertoire to express ideas more fluently.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('every people do not pay', 'owning a hose is consider'), article usage ('a positive situation'), and awkward phrasing ('sells after 10 years ago'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with spaces before commas and periods. While the meaning is generally clear despite these errors, the high frequency of grammatical slips prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. More attention to basic sentence construction and proofreading is required.
