Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The student attempts to address both parts of the prompt, mentioning reasons for owning a home such as security and investment, and expressing a positive opinion. However, the response is severely underdeveloped due to the extremely short length of 150 words, falling well below the 250-word minimum. As explicitly required for under-length responses, this significantly limits the score because the ideas are not fully extended or supported. Phrases like 'l think is a positive impact on people' show a partial response to the second task requirement. To reach a higher band, the writer needs to expand significantly on their ideas with detailed explanations and examples, ensuring all parts of the prompt are thoroughly explored. Due to the word count penalty, the score is restricted to Band 4.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The text is organized into four distinct paragraphs, attempting an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, the logical progression is weak and abrupt. Cohesive devices are minimal and basic, such as 'first' and 'moreover', and referencing is sometimes unclear, as seen in 'Second house can be a good investment'. Paragraphing is attempted, but the extreme brevity of the paragraphs prevents adequate development. There are also mechanical errors in cohesion and formatting, such as missing capital letters and spacing issues like 'very significant for people.l think'. Overall, while there is a basic structure, the cohesion is faulty and mechanical, aligning with the Band 5 descriptor.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The student uses a limited, repetitive vocabulary adequate for expressing very basic ideas, such as 'security', 'stability', 'investment', and 'rent'. There are frequent lexical errors and inappropriate word choices, such as 'change our house as they like' instead of 'change their house' or 'modify', and 'batter future' instead of 'better future'. Less common vocabulary is attempted with inaccuracy, and basic spelling or capitalization mistakes are present, such as lowercase 'l' instead of 'I'. The range is minimally adequate to convey simple meanings, but noticeable errors restrict the lexical score to Band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The writing shows a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying mostly on simple sentences with occasional attempts at complex forms that are often faulty. Examples of grammatical and punctuation errors include missing capitalization ('first, owning a house', 'i believe'), subject-verb agreement issues ('it provide a security', 'people own a home'), and missing prepositions ('do not have any pay rent'). These frequent errors can cause some difficulty for the reader and demonstrate poor control over basic sentence mechanics. Consequently, the grammar aligns with the descriptors for Band 4.0.
